Just came back from a lovely 5 days trip in Sweden. I happened to be there during Valborg, a celebration where swedish people welcome spring by making huge bonfires everywhere.

Valborg is a Swedish holiday celebrated on the last day of April every year.

I was assigned to do a photo reportage for photo class, this is one of the photos in it.

Celebrating the “Valborg”-holiday April 30th with a big bonfire, so called “majbrasa” (May Bonfire), in Sweden. These kids runned back and forth in the front of the bonfire and then they stopped I took this picture.

You can see the smoke from a lot of fires this evening.

Last day in april, on Walpurgis night, we put all garden waste and other burnable garbage to great bonfires all over the country and people are standing around it, feel cold, sometimes choirs are singing 'spring-songs', a lot of fireworks are painting the dark sky. We are saying goodbye to the winter and the darkness that evening and welcome the new season. It's an old tradition and I'm sure it has something to do with the Asa Gods.
