A WEDDING FOR HMOOD'S COUSIN ... by Bill Strain

.... Hmood sent me a number of photographs of events involving his cousin's wedding. I'm hoping he'll tell me more about the details and rules. I would love to hear that music. In fact if it is on Utube, I'll link it and listen often. I think there's a possibility Saudi Arabian wedding music would be online if I just know how to find it. (On Flickr Hmood is known as oldwolf, although in reality he is quite young. His home town is Duba, which is in the northwest corner of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and on the Red Sea.. Remember the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers and the Red Sea from elementary school GEOGRAPHY? Well, I do.

Le foto del viaggio in barca tra le Isole Ionie. Un vero viaggio, non una semplice crociera, perché oltre la vela e il mare abbiamo vissuto numerose esperienze sulla terraferma.

Abbiamo assaporato da vicino quegli aspetti e quelle curiosità che fanno parte del mondo ellenico e che solitamente si perdono durante una classica vacanza in barca a vela.

Abbiamo degustato vino, cucinato nella cucina di una taverna sul mare, prodotto i nostri formaggi, mangiato i piatti tipici, ma soprattutto abbiamo conosciuto i greci.

Un mix di mare e terra!

The picts of the boat trip between the Ionian Islands. A real journey, not just a cruise, because beyond sailing and the sea we have tried many experiences on land.

We have closely tasted those aspects and those curiosities that are part of the Hellenic world and that are usually lost during a classic sailing holiday.

We tasted wine, cooked in the kitchen of a tavern on the sea, produced our cheese, ate typical dishes, but above all we met the Greeks.

A mix of sea and land!

Cane installation learning curve by DAVE

This is the door for the locker in front of the helm station. This is the second door I installed cane on. This door has two frame sections in it. On the first door of my cane installation endeavors, I had difficulty keeping the cane material aligned using techniques found on Utube tutorials. I adopted technique of using clamps to hold the material in alignment while I forced the material into the groove. Once the strands were forced into the groove, white glue was applied in the groove and then a wooden spline was pounded into the groove.

Prior to installation, the cane material was soaked in water for 20 minutes. Shrinkage occurs as the cane dries out thus it becomes very taunt in the frame.

Spraying Awlcraft 2000 finish coat by DAVE

Pictured are plywood pieces for the outboard engine cover and cockpit storage shelves.

The pieces were first faired with epoxy/micro balloons, then two coats of epoxy sanded with 220 grit, then three spray coats of Awlgrip 545 epoxy primer, and sanded with 320 grit.

This summer, Austin, Tx temperatures are day after day 100+ so I started my day at 6:00 am with first task hanging the pieces from garage rails. Four coats of finish paint were applied by 11:00 am. Today’s effort wrapped up the last of the serious Awlcraft 2000 spraying endeavors on my build. . The minor stuff remainIng will be done with a detail spray gun.

How did I do with my spraying? Two pieces have sags not because of poor spray gun movement but because in one case I screwed up and had the nozzle adjusted for a horizontal spray pattern when I was moving the gun Side to side. This put down down a narrow thick line that sagged. The other sag occurred when the gun hit a support string and stopped gun movement. What I have learned is to leave the sags alone until the piece is put into place and the sag may not be noticeable.

Yesterday I went onto Utube to refresh my spraying skills. I found an excellent spray tutorial put out by Eastwood Co. auto restoration materials. I learned new technique practices that I used today.
