"Orange Blossom Special" Great version on uTube by Johnny Cash. Our Berberis in full bloom.

Excuse my self-indulgence I found an old song I'd never heard before on utube which brought back memories of a long lost love, I cant believe I still find it painful and thought I'd share it with you. I like the way the violin keeps the listener waiting for the final note which never comes. Listen if you wish.

My best friend... People was telling me that a friendship between a man and a woman is possible and i was laughing saying there is not even a slight chance for that to happen . Well i stopped laughing and here i am today saying how right they were and the reason is this man here on my foto, Ali. He has been there for me in hard times, real life hard times and Sl hard times, supporting me, comforting me, kicking my a@@ when i was taking the wrong turn and bringing me back straight. He stand there just listening to me hours and hours without judging me but only reminding me how strong i was so strong that i could make anything happen.

And i say is a blessing to have such a person u can call "best friend" and is an honor to have such a person in my life.

So heres to our friends, to the people that give love without asking back, to the people that are not there for us in good times but in bad times, cause in bad times we see who our friends are...

Thank you hun and i hope im able to give back a small part of the kindness and smile u give to me every signle day.

I was searching utube to find a nice song that would fit to this foto to which he kindly posed with me, so i came across an amazing voice "Hollywood Anderson and his song Called Infatuated" his voice is devine... so really worths to listen to it.

Hello Everyone,

Believe it or not, these are both Painted Ladies. The one the left is showing off its inner wings and the one on the right, shows the outer wing. What a difference!

When I saw this photo, I immediately thought of an old "feel good" song by The Turtles called, "So Happy Together." Here's a link if you'd like to hear it:

Hello All!

I adore peonies, they smell so nice and the show of them has been spectacular this year. These are the classic pink ones, edited and dressed-up in Topaz Studio.

Happy Sliders Sunday! HSS!

I had no specific reason for the caption except perhaps that I love Johnny Reid's romantic song entitled, "Dance With Me." Here is the Utube Link if you'd like to listen:

Only few minutes from my house there is situated this little castle now used as a farmhouse.

It remembers me always of Franz Kafkas´s novel "The Castle".

Franz Kafka (3 July 1883 – 3 June 1924) was one of the major fiction writers of the 20th century and I admire him a lot.

In UTube I found the life of Franz Kafka in photos combined with Frédéric Chopin's Nocturne in C Minor, Op. 48, No.1.

Some of you may remember a few weeks ago I was talking about the cost of cutting down the old Oak trees. Anyway one of them is right next to my Townhouse and it was the smaller of the 3 trees that needed to be taken down. Thinking I could save the Home Owners Association some money, I decided to cut the smaller tree next to my place down and let it fall into the yard. So, I watch some UTube video's and it looked pretty simple. I cut the notch out like it showed in the video but when I cut through the tree it fell across the road. I hadn't really planned on that. It's surprising how much bigger the tree gets when it's on the ground. Luckily, one of my neighbors came over to help me and the two of us were able to clear the road in a little over an hour.

I'm going to leave the other 2 trees to the pros

JUST SAYING----------HAPPY 4TH WEEKEND

Dawn at the Hook Head Lighthouse, the Hook Peninsula, Co. Wexford.

There has been a lighthouse here on this site from 1671.

Dubhan, a missionary here in the 5th century, was so horrified by the number of bodies he found washed up on the shore, he decided to light a warning beacon which he constantly tended.

It slowly developed into a timber watchtower and in 1172, a group of Welsh monks who had an abbey here, took on the official job of lighting warning beacons.

The original bottom 3 storeys date from 1670, and were just basic coal fired beacons lit on top of the structure. The coal dust is still visible, clinging to the stonework.

In 1720 a new light was installed and was operated on whale oil.

The top 2 storeys were added in the early 20th century and is now fully automated. It was opened to the public in 2002 and is an amazing place to visit much feted in The Lonely Planet Guide. I have been there 5 times in the last 10 years as its a fabulous place and its wonderful to walk the coastline.

The saying, " By Hook or by Crook " is said to have originated here. Crook head is on the opposite side of the Suir River estuary in Co. Waterford. Oliver Cromwell who caused much slaughter here in 1691, said he would take Waterford City by Hook or by Crook, referring to the headlands. However, it proved to be his undoing as he was driven off at Duncannon Fort and his troops died of dysentery and starvation in a failed siege. Unfortunately Oliver survived!

By the way, if I have to explain where the title comes from, well, "Man" you haven't lived!!!! Lol!

{Jimi Hendrix Experience, classic version[ 1968 ] of the Bob Dylan song! Check it out on uTube!}

Do hope you like my efforts and thank you for reading.

"No light in the window,

No Welcome at the door"

I came across this old place on a country road and I thought there was something very nice about it.Im certain that when it was built this area would have been just rough fields. Maybe its the thought that a happy family of children were once reared here and Im sure there was lots of love and affection there too. It has a nice feeling about it.

There are a number of Jackdaws building in the roof space and in the chimney on the right. You can see one of them perched on the capping. In some societies its believed that Jackdaws and Rooks are the spirits of those who have passed on and they appear to be great at socialising and are very attentive parents. Maybe its because seem to need one another just like we do and that makes them special. They always like to congregate around deserted buildings constantly chattering to each other in there own special language. Probably saying that the wish the eejit with the camera would feck off!!! I do like to think that they are the spirits of those who once lived here.

The words by the way, are from a old Scottish song which was recorded way back in the 50s by Fr. Sydney Mc Ewan Scottish tenor and also Count John Mc Cormick, the Irish tenor. I think the Fureys had a go at it too. There are quiet a few offerings of it on Utube.

Do hope you will like the pic as much as I do and that your weekend is truly special.

Update; Well, Im amazed how many people seem to like this photo. I really am so inspired and grateful to you all. Im sure its helped by the bit of the write up that adds to it as well and Im easy with that too.

My mother used to sing this song when I was growing up and I suppose its special. Not so much the song air, but the words which do "destroy me " every time I think of them. Thats a good thing really as a bit of soul searching does us no harm.

"Oh lonely I wander , Through the days of my childhood,

They call back to memory, The happy days of yore,

Where have they gone now, The house stands deserted,

No light in the window, No welcome at the door "

Here`s where the children, Played games on the heather.

And here`s where they launched, Their boats on the burn.

Where are they now, Some are dead, some have wandered,

No more to this place will the children return "

" So lonely the house now, And lonely the moorland,

The children are scattered, The old folks they are gone,

Why stand I here, Like the ghosts of their shadows.

Its time I was moving, Its time I passed on "

I think its one of the most beautiful pieces of prose ever! Maybe thats because the Wicklow mountains are full of deserted cottages, mostly in ruins. They would have been the homes of the poor who died of starvation, [some of them my ancestors] or emigrated or worse during the famine in 1847-1850. 1 million died, 1 million emigrated, and one million disappeared! And the World and our "masters" stood by and let it happen! Shame on them!

But happily, time has moved on as we all must do!

Thank you all my friends, once again,

P@t.

Chance lives in a place where he has live access to all kinds of wildlife viewing all day long. He makes his way from the patio door to various windows to twitch his tail and pounce on the screens and windows. However just like any teenager he runs like hell when he hears a utube video on my phone or TV and would sit for hours of viewing if I let him. I usually allow him some screen time when I do the dishes because he is also enthralled with running water and will not leave me or my sink alone. If I sit him down on the table with my phone, I can get the dishes done in peace and remain dry.

Studio Drift is an art collective formed by Lonneke Gordijb, born in 1980 in Alkmaar, The Netherlands, and Ralph Nauto, born in 1978 in Swindon, United Kingdom. They live and work in Amsterdam. They are known internationally for the creation of interactive sculptures and installations that combine the world of nature and man, through the clever use of technology and craftsmanship, creating works with great visual impact.

After they both graduated in Design in 2005, Studio Drift has been active since 2007, when Lonneke and Ralph opened a space in Amsterdam. Studio Drift is inspired, as a starting point, by elements that occur in nature and then reformulate the concepts from which they draw inspiration into the philosophical and artistic realms; to do this they integrate different technologies and cutting-edge techniques. Each work they realize is exciting for the viewer who, because of the personal interaction with the surroundings, can be read through different filters and multiple levels. Through a sustainable artistic and scientific research, these artists use the help of numerous experts, scientists and researchers. In 20 Steps (2015), for example, is a kinetic installation that consists of 20 glass wings in continuous movement; it is a tribute to the human desire to be able to fly, despite the force of gravity. Their works are present in important international institutions such as: Victoria and Albert Museum, London; Louis Vuitton collection; and The Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam. Studio Drift has won numerous prizes, including International Design Prize ‘Lights of the future’, German Design Council (2006); Moet Hennessy – Pavilion of Art and Design London Prize (2010); The best piece of Arte Laguna (2014), Venice; and Dutch Design Awards (2015).

Hi, This is my entry for Macro Monday's May 06, 2019 theme four elements. I learned on UTube (where else?) that steel wool will catch on fire if you touch it briefly with the two prongs of a 9 volt battery. The fire spread amazingly well. Not too fast giving us time to snap a decent photo. So since the entry this week one of the four elements... I thought it made a good subject for this week's theme. I also try water droplets which is also posted on my feed, you are welcome to have a look if you want.

Hope you like it this shot.

We had to wrap it and keep it for three days before cutting. It is very nice. First time I have ever tried dates. I had a smear of butter on it. Texture is good. It was easy to make. Not overly sweet. It is a big cake and we shall share some with the neighbours.

I took this photo in 2016 but never really showed it as I thought it was a bit sad. Maybe its the right time now with whats happing here with the threat of Brexit hanging over us through no fault of our own! Such a shameful mess!! P@t.

"1847 was the year it all began,

Driving pains of hunger drove a million from this land,

They journeyed not for glory,

There motive wasnt greed,

A voyage of survival,

Far across the stormy seas,

To the city of Chicago,

As the evening shadows fall,

There are people dreamin`

Of the hills of Donegal

Some of them knew fortune,

Some of them knew pain,

More of them knew heartbreak,

Died upon the plains,

They spread throughout the nation,

Rode the railroad cars,

Brought their songs and music,

To ease their lonely hearts, "

To the city of Chicago

Etc.

Another photo from last Saturdays trek.

Maulin mountain stands at 570m and is part of the Wicklow National park. Its a wild, boggy place but it has the most amazing views looking east towards the Irish sea and south Dublin Bay.

I find it a very sad place as I know the history of it. Its not bad thing in my opinion to remember these dreadful happenings here, with respect and reverence as thankfully, we have all moved on in regard to our treatment and regard for our fellow humans, None in my opinion, more so than the Irish who in recent years have really grasped the nettle regarding peoples freedom, rights and civil liberties, including the removal in 1999 of article 2 and 3 from the constitution where the Republic of Ireland laid claim to Northern Ireland. A brave and a wonderful step which lead to the good Friday agreement and a lasting peace which we all work tirelessly to keep.

The stone walls crossing this mountain for more than 600 yards, serve no useful purpose whatsoever and were built during the Famine years of 1847-1850, a terrible time when over one million died and another million emigrated to the new World. No one is quite certain of the exact numbers and im also certain that there are quite a number of bodies buried along this wall as they died of starvation while building it. The Government decided to start these hair brained schemes under the OPW as rather than give the starving food it was decided to make them work for it " So as not to foster and promote laziness " amongst the Irish! Work, when they were dying. Its so deep in the Irish psyche that people still talk about and everyone knows what "famine beds" and "Hungry Grass" is

It still casts a "blight" upon all of us!

The round stone structure in the fourground is competely covered in and incorporated into the wall. Its about 3ft high and 4ft in diameter with a 2 ft square hole in one side. No one seems to know what it is but its from the famine yearss Maybe a dog shelter. could be for food but................!

Because of the way the English ruled Ireland, the land was divided into very small areas, sometimes of no more than a half an acre. This was so that the landlords could obtain more rents doubling or tripling the number of tennants, The rents were more than most people could afford anyway.Little has changed much there Im afraid! There could be up to 12 or 13 children together with their parents and maybe their grandparents living in a small rough house in each of theses homesteads struggling to live anyway so when the famine came, it was devastation.

There was a population explosion here in the 1830s as the potato sustained so many of the population. It was thought that the potato was introduced to Ireland by Sir Walter Raleigh

but it is now widely accepted that it arrived with the Spanish Armada in 1588. The Armada tried to invade England but were routed and they tried to escape across the top of Scotland and down the west coast Ireland but sadly they were caught in severe gales and many sunk and many were captured here by the English and the Irish who killed them or held them for randsome. Its said that women collecting seaweed in west, possibly Co. Kerry, found potato tubers washed up on the shore. They planted them in the poor peaty soil and to their amazement they grew extremely well, yielding up to 20 potatoes per stalk. This meant that they could easily feed their families so it became the mainstay of the diet here. This of course lead to a population explosion which Im certain the infamous drink, Poiteen played no "small" part in! Lol! Sorry ! Bad choice of words!!!!!!

In 1847 [ black 47 ] a blight struck the potato crop blackening the stems and rotting the young tubers in the ground. and in storage pits { Clamps } in the ground, This resulted in total starvation for millions. At the same time thousands of tons of other foods, like Maize and Wheat were exported out of the ports here under armed guard. Queen Victoria contributed £5 to the Irish famine relief fund but was advised by her ministers to als give the same amount to Battersea Dogs Home as they didnt want it to appear that she was favouring us!!! How appalling!

A sad time and we should never forget but we move on thankfully and rise way above it all. We now live in peace here on our beautiful island and we must ensure that it remains that way for all our sakes.

Hugs and best wishes to all my friends here who just like us, are spread out to the 4 corners of our World! Thank you!

Trump is in the UK at the moment and coming here tomorrow unfortunately. Hes not welcome! Hes still spouting his rheteroic about immigration. I have a question for him! The native American is the Red Indian so where does he think everybody else. including his ancestors came from? Indeed were it not for America, millions of Irish would have died here because of the famine. Australia also took many Irish people So think on! It was the immigrants that made America what it is today Fortunately they are not all like Trump! Hes in the minority and he wont last the distance. Statesman? Give us a break!!!!

I've posted a few photos 4 months ago from this outing,so this photo is very similar but not the same, the light and colour here I like tonite. Think I'm getting dissatisfied or restless with my shooting,I need a change of some sort not just camera wise but style wise. Against seeming good judgement am entertaining purchase of a sigma merrill dp2. From all accounts a seemingly annoying camera in a number of ways, but with an image quality most anyone who uses the camera is impressed with. It's not a camera I was looking for, I did notice the unique image quality on a particular photo by this camera of someone I follow on flickr, and didn't forget that. On the other hand I did forget the camera. A few days ago I suddenly got thinking about it though. Now I feel ready to pull the trigger on a purchase. I thought about the cons of the camera realistically, and I am pretty sure theyre not significant enough to truly stop me from both buying and using it. Everytime I read a different review or watched a utube mention of it I heard the same thing:the camera sucks because of this...and this..and this...I get it,versatility is not this camera's forte. It has limitations,it is slow, good only from iso 100-400,super slow to write the image file info after you press the shutter (though apparently you can shoot again immediately)....oh yeah, there's also no viewfinder...the lcd screen is also supposedly not very accurate in what you're seeing, nor is the lcd presenting all that the camera is capturing...However.....that raved about image quality. One thing puzzles me. A couple of folks were adamant that in spite of image quality the camera's not insignificant shortcomings were too much for them to want to keep the camera. I understand using the camera for a time, perhaps a chunk of time where you enjoy and get used to the image quality and then let go of it having tasted the good fruit. What I don't understand is raving about image quality but then saying the camera is just to annoying to use and so sayonara. That I don't get,not really giving the camera a chance. Because serious annoyances or not, isn't photography ultimately about image quality??? Sure, don't get me wrong, I well enough get that versatility, user friendliness are also important factors, longterm important factors. Okay, accept the camera for what it is,forget about what it's not and what it's limitations are,and enjoy, while you want to,what it's limitations AREN'T....like say....IMAGE QUALITY PERHAPS? Don't get me wrong,I'm not saying these other shortcomings wouldn't bother me as well. I believe these are real shortcomings too. But,I don't get not even giving the camera a chance in your life. People are different.Different enough to explain to me just why anyone might say no to this camera in spite of their love of beautiful imagery. Anyway,I definitely need a change I realize. I also like oddball things, like this camera,I like the fact it has some serious weaknesses. But I'm also pretty sure I wouln't like it/them in the same way if the camera wasn't reputed for image quality. It would then be just a crappy camera, pure and simple.
