Mattress Factory Community Art Lab
Artist Educators: Kevin Clancy and David Pohl
June 18-29, 2012

Utopia is an imaginary place inhabited by an ideal society who enjoy complete social and political harmony. Utopia translates to both “good place” and “no place”, and this imagined model of perfection can inspire us to envision, design, and transform the world we live in every day. In this session, students will dream wildly, envision their own Utopias, and become the change they wish to see in the world. The course will explore the concept of Utopia through various forms of creative communication, ranging from printmaking and music to installation and portable architecture.

there are many things that come to mind when I think of Utopia... but for this theme, it was only fitting that I think back to being a kid and how much fun it was when my Daddy took me fishing. Fishing was always my Dad's version of Utopia... nothing better than going out at day break, or an evening and catching a mess of black bass, crappie, Bream, white bass or whatever was biting. Being with my Daddy fishing.... Utopia
