Model: Utopia
Designer: Ekaterina Lukasheva
I tried to make a different model from this card, but it's very thick and so I made a change to this one since I hadn't made a utopia with these proportions yet. 30 sheets of 1:sqrt(3) paper, no glue.
Searching for Utopia: an oversized turtle with a self-portrait rider on top of the shield, watching the sea. It refers to the Utopia of Thomas More. The impressive bronzestatue is 7 meters long, 3 meters high and weighs 5.5 tons. The work is permanently present on the dike at the beach in Newport.

"All my writing is about the recognition that there is no single reality. But the beauty of it is that you nevertheless go on, walking towards utopia, which may not exist, on a bridge which might end before you reach the other side."
- Marguerite Young
Miss Utopia is the pioneer of the future, exploring the solar system with her trusty robotic companion, GD-801!
Bio-Cup Round 3 Entry
- Theme: The Future
- Subtheme: Utopia
This theme proved to be just as difficult, if not more so, as the last round, purely because of how I could choose to interpret it. Do I make a sprawling cityscape of the future? What about the vehicle for the perfect world? I was even considering making something inspired by the TV Series 'Utopia' but I think that would have been a little extreme. No spoons were used in the making of this moc.
Deciding to explore the retro-futurist approach, I was heavily influenced by old pulp science fiction magazine covers, with their impossible spacesuits and clunky robots. This is my attempt at recreating that aesthetic.
Here are a few more shots of the double-decker microscale city diorama I made. I expanded both the base of the model and the stilt city above it, as well as added a bit more brown in the lower city. The solid black wasn't photographing well, and it needed the variation.

Wishful thinking?
While passing this wall a lot of thoughts went through my mind, I would add one word to this mantra and that is: "Hope"
Running a flu this whole week and in great danger of my nose running away. Consequently, I cannot shoot sunrise this morning. So here's sharing a sunrise last Saturday to make up for lost sunrise!
In our wildest aberrations we dream of an equilibrium we have left behind and which we naively expect to find at the end of our errors. Childish presumption which justifies the fact that child - nations, inheriting our follies, are now directing our history.
Words by Albert Camus
.
spietato e inevitabile,
pericoloso.
Utopia è il luogo in cui, forse,
non ci sarà nemmeno concesso di
morire:
perché anche questo sarebbe un
privilegio.
Lungo il percorso
tanto ci siamo compromessi,
con la durezza del mondo reale,
da perdere le ali necessarie
a volare tanto in alto.
Ma abbiamo imparato a camminare.
