Crews from FirstEnergy Corp.’s utilities are now using smart phones and laptop computers to more efficiently assess damage to the electrical system and help expedite power restoration efforts in the wake of major storm events.

To help expedite this process, FirstEnergy has developed two new apps that employees can use on mobile devices to automatically enter damage information into the company’s outage management system. In the past, this process relied on paper maps, hand written notes and phone calls between field responders and dispatch offices.

In the early hours of Tuesday, June 15th, 2010 Santa Clara County Fire responded to a fatal house fire on Preservation Way in Morgan Hill. During the first hour there were several explosions, believed to be caused by Propane tanks in and around the house.

County Utility 6 is a Ford Stake side F550 with Electric lift gate. It is being used to fill in for Breathing Support 2 which is out for maintenance. County's El Toro Station less than a block away has air refill capabilities and Utility 6 is shuttling bottles back and forth between the Station and the Fire ground.

With a very smokey fire active for several hours the Breathing Support Unit was missed and even with a small commute, they were struggling to keep up with the demand for fresh air bottles.

The substation crews used these trucks, as most of their work involved moving parts in and out of substations, and lifting the equipment into place, and rarely was the work out of reach of extension ladders.

This truck was equipped with pumps and oil tanks for transferring transformer oil.

Let me preface this shot by saying that I took it through a window, hence the odd reflections and schmutz. I'm SO ready for the cold weather to be over so that I can get back to shooting outside!

I really needed to see some blue skies in my photostream, so here's a shot of the type of electricity pole you can find around downtown Montreal. Yes, it really is leaning like that, I'd say it's about a 30 degree angle to the pavement.

I thought the poles were to hold up the lines, not the other way around!

The Matchbox 2016 Ford Interceptor Utility was a distinct improvement over its ill proportioned predecessor and one which has been given quite the number of different recolours. Many like this brand new release wear real life licensed liveries which does help with realism and credibility, especially at this low price end of the market.

A colour scheme and livery we've seen before on other Matchbox castings but the first time its graced their 2023 Ford Police Interceptor Utility. Its a no brainer that it suits such a vehicle choice and it is a casting which is a worthy update of their previous Interceptor Utility even if it also carries on the tradition of having no front or rear tampo detailing!

There is little soil in Ilulissat, where there is soil it's generally poor, and often permafrost. One of the prominent consequences of this is that utilities such as water and electric are strewn along the ground in a ubiquitous kind of iron casing which seems to be used throughout the arctic.
