Our church was upgrading their utility vehicle to a more powerful one, so I bought the old one for use at the farm. This one is old and it is only two wheel drive, but it sure has come in handy all ready.

Did the wallpapering today and put the wall cupboards up on the wall. I thought this was the perfect dress for Magpie, really love the colours on her. Note that pooping cat has taken refuge by the side of the washing machine, the kitchen was just too busy for him LOL

Out for a lunchtime walk, I found these utility poles. Looks like a couple broke (due to automobile impacts) and a new one was put up. But the old poles are still here, with a long bolt through them. The bolt sticks out into the path of pedestrians on the sidewalk. Not a good repair job, IMHO.

A utility pole is a pole used to support overhead power lines and various other public utilities, such as cable, fibre optic cable, and related equipment such as transformers and street lights. It can be referred to as a transmission pole, telephone pole, telecommunication pole, power pole, hydro pole, telegraph pole, or telegraph post, depending on its application. A stobie pole is a multi-purpose pole made of two steel joists held apart by a slab of concrete in the middle, generally found in South Australia. Electrical cable is routed overhead as an inexpensive way to keep it insulated from the ground and out of the way of people and vehicles. Utility poles can be made of wood, metal, concrete, or composites like fiberglass. They are used for lower voltage power transmission; higher voltage transmission lines are carried on steel transmission towers.

Utility poles were first used in the mid-19th century with telegraph systems, starting with Samuel Morse who attempted to bury a line between Baltimore and Washington, D.C., but moved it aboveground when this system proved faulty.

The nearby PG&E electrical station is pretty interesting to photograph.

Just acquired another vintage camera, a Spartus Press Flash. This camera was introduced in 1939 and was the first camera to have a built in flash reflector. The camera is basically a box camera, no focus, no exposure setting except "Instant" or "Time" and shoots 8 big 6x9 negatives on a roll of 120 film. It was a joy to use and gave me 8 perfect negatives.

(I can't believe I used on of my last rolls of Plus-X on an untested camera but I love the results. I miss Plus-X)

The old and the new. I love the warehouse district feel of this building behind the northside garage. It's one of the few buildings on campus ... and might be the only one ... that's made out of red brick.
