THE COCHINCHINESE WATER SKINK

A secretive and little known semi-aquatic species, this adult male Tropidophorus cocincinensis was found nocturnally active within a shallow stream flowing through karst rainforest within the Annamite Mountain Range in the Phong Nha-Ke Bang NP, Quang Binh Province, central Vietnam.

This is the northernmost recorded population in Vietnam and South East Asia.

Taken with a Canon EOS 5D Mark IV DSLR coupled to a vintage C/Y (Contax/Yashica mount) Yashica ML 55/2.8 1:2 macro lens from the 1970's with a third-party adapter. Hand-held with manual settings, manual focus and diffused, single-flash utilised.

La Plaza del Castillo de Varsovia (en polaco, plac Zamkowy w Warszawie) es una plaza histórica situada frente al Castillo Real, antigua residencia oficial de los reyes de Polonia. Es un lugar de encuentro popular para los turistas y los residentes. La plaza, que tiene aproximadamente forma triangular, contiene la Columna de Segismundo al sudoeste, y está rodeada por casas históricas. Marca el comienzo de la bulliciosa Ruta Real, que se extiende hacia el sur.

La columna al Rey Segismundo III Vasa fue construida en 1644. Es el monumento más antiguo de la ciudad, y fue obra de Clemente Molli. En el lado este de la plaza está el Castillo Real, reconstruido tras la devastación de la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Era antiguamente la residencia de los duques de Mazovia, posteriormente de los reyes de Polonia y los grandes duques de Lituania desde el siglo XVI hasta el siglo XVIII. Fue bombardeado y volado por los nazis drante la Segunda Guerra Mundial (HCIEROS UNOS 5.000.- AGUJEROS Y LOS RELLENARON DE DINAMITA). En 1949 se conectó la plaza mediante escaleras mecánicas a la recientemente creada Ruta W-Z, que pasa bajo la plaza en un túnel. También se construyó un viaducto (que conduce al Puente de Silesia-Dąbrowski) en sustitución del viaducto Pancer, destruido también durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial. En 1907 se había modernizado el viaducto para que pasaran tranvías eléctricos, lo que hicieron menos de un año después.

Esta plaza ha sido el escenario de muchas escenas dramáticas de la historia de Polonia. Hubo manifestaciones patrióticas antes del estallido del Levantamiento de Enero. El 27 de febrero de 1861 balas rusas mataron a cinco personas. El 8 de abril de 1861 cinco rotte de infantería y dos tropas de caballería rusa (unas 1300 personas), dirigidos por el General Stiepan Aleksandrowicz Chrulew, realizaron una sangrienta masacre de civiles, que se saldó con más de cien muertos.

Durante la ley marcial la plaza fue el escenario de brutales disturbios, con la policía ZOMO abriéndose paso a través de las manifestaciones el 3 de mayo de 1982. (Wikipedia)

Casa de la Banca Aramburu, palacete ecléctico historicista creado por Juan Cabrera Latorre en 1910 para el banquero Aramburu de Mora, en la Plaza de San Antonio de Cádiz.

Históricamente destaca esta plaza por haberse proclamado en ella la Constitución de 1812 y por ser escenario de la sangrienta represión del movimiento liberal de 1820.

Los edificios que la delimitan presentan una gran uniformidad en sus proporciones, sólo rota por la esbelta fachada de la iglesia de San Antonio. La sede del Casino Gaditano, levantada en el siglo XVIII por el marqués del Pedroso, es un edificio de estilo barroco, reformado en estilo isabelino en 1857. Su patio y dependencias interiores presentan una profusa decoración neomudéjar, realizada en 1890 por el artista sevillano Adolfo López Rodríguez.

En el año 1857 se levanta esta casa del marqués del Pedroso, un notable palacete de estilo isabelino, donde abundan los detalles historicistas. En su interior cuenta con un insólito patio de rica decoración neomudéjar, y en el exterior con una noble fachada de cuatro plantas de altura y pilastras de orden gigante proyectada por el arquitecto Juan de la Vega. Pinos Genil es una localidad y municipio español situado en la parte central de la comarca de la Vega de Granada, en la provincia de Granada, comunidad autónoma de Andalucía. Limita con los municipios de Cenes de la Vega, Granada —por el distrito Albaicín—, Dúdar, Güéjar Sierra y Monachil. Por su término municipal discurre de este a oeste el río Genil, que divide en dos mitades el pueblo, unido únicamente por tres puentes, así como el río Aguas Blancas, que desemboca en el anterior.

El municipio pinero es una de las treinta y cuatro entidades que componen el Área Metropolitana de Granada, y comprende los núcleos de población de Pinos Genil —capital municipal— y Los Pinillos.

Por su situación, a orillas del Genil y protegido por las faldas de Sierra Nevada, se ha mantenido desde la antigüedad el constante asentamiento humano en la zona.

Durante el período musulmán se creó la alquería de Biniyallus o Pinillos, nombre originario de Pinos Genil, que se dividía en los barrios de Pinillos la Baja, Harataçafla y Pinillos de Arriba. Llegó a contar con unos cien vecinos a finales del siglo xv, y disponía además de una rábita en el camino de Güéjar Sierra, junto a un arroyo.

En Pinos Genil arranca una de las acequias históricas de la vega granadina, llamada del Candil y más tarde del Cadí, finalizada por los almohades en el siglo xii para cubrir las necesidades de expansión de la Medina Garnata, a cotas de altitud a las que no podía llegar el agua de la al-Saqiya al-Kubra, la acequia Gorda, Real o Mayor de Granada, construida solo unos años antes.

Con el final de la Reconquista cristiana, en 1492, empezó una etapa de relativa tranquilidad que duró hasta finales de siglo. En las Navidades de 1499 los moriscos que quedaban en Pinillos se sublevaron, situación que se mantuvo hasta que las tropas castellanas tomaron nuevamente el control. Como consecuencia, la mayoría de la población pereció o fue expulsada, y la Corona se hizo cargo del pueblo, arrendando sus tierras directamente entre 1500 y 1504. Más tarde la responsabilidad de censar tierras y cobrar tributos para la Corona recaló en Fernando Díaz de Puebla, uno de los nuevos colonos.

La segunda rebelión de los moriscos, en 1556, llevó aparejada la expulsión definitiva de los mismos. Quedó tan despoblado Pinos Genil en esa época que apenas llegaba a la treintena de vecinos.

A pesar de que la antigua mezquita de Pinillos se había erigido como iglesia para el culto cristiano a principios del siglo xvi, no fue hasta mediados de ese mismo siglo cuando se empezó a levantar la parroquia de Santa María Magdalena.

Aguas abajo, bajo el actual núcleo de Los Pinillos y muy cerca del linde con el término municipal de Cenes, a comienzos del siglo xx se construyó asimismo el azud de Pinos, que conduce el agua del Genil hasta la planta potabilizadora de La Lancha y abastece a Granada y buena parte de la comarca.

Antiguamente este municipio se benefició del servicio que brindaba el tranvía de Granada a Sierra Nevada (1925-1974), y conserva el característico edificio que constituyó su estación ferroviaria. (Wikipedia)

Las murallas de Zamora

El recinto amurallado germinal de la ciudad va desde el castillo hasta el templo de San Ildefonso, aprovechando el fuerte desnivel de los sectores norte y sur.

Fernando I pudo iniciar la construcción de un segundo recinto ceñido al estratégico roquedo para salvaguardar los núcleos de poder, fijando un reconocible eje urbano este-oeste al tiempo que se establecían nuevos burgos, pueblas (la Puebla del Valle, a la vera del Duero) e iglesias. El romancero alude a la Peña Tajada y sus veintiséis cubos, con una longitud de más de dos kilómetros y ocupando un total de 25 hectáreas, ocho puertas y varios portillos auxiliares que pudo ser el escenario del asedio sufrido por las tropas de Sancho II durante el cerco de Zamora. Hacia 1230 se irá alzando un nuevo recinto desde el torreón de Santa Ana hasta el de San Pablo, cercando el Burgo en cuyo interior convivía el caserío con parcelas ocupadas por huertos y eras. Surgiendo entonces la Plaza Mayor como centro urbano, desde donde arrancan las principales arterias de la ciudad: Santa Clara, San Torcuato o Balborraz. Se remataba la catedral románica y nacían los arrabales del Espíritu Santo, San Lázaro, San Frontis y la Vega. Zamora “la bien cercada” era para Juan Gil de Zamora (1250-1318) una valiosa Numancia.

The F.A.U.N. unit series 1 is an intelligent field operations drone designed to accompany mission operatives and undertake support roles. Unable to make command decisions, they act more as an 'extra pair of hands' or perhaps more often, an 'extra pair of guns'.

Was struggling to build something usable at this size to interact with minifigures. Learnt a lot from Hydromancer's tiny Gundams and this is the result of my study : )

After moving house, I decided to utilise a house I'd used in a previous decorating picture. Trompe L'oeil's Shoemaker Cottage suggested an English country style when I created the original picture, so decorating the rest of the house in a similar style has been a real treat.

Igor Mitoraj en Pompeya

La enorme escultura de Dédalo, en bronce es la primera de las 28 obras que a partir del 15 de mayo podrán verse en exposición en Pompeya. Mitoraj, fallecido en 2014, tenía un sueño: ver sus obras en el yacimiento. Las Termas y el Teatro Grande albergarán también obras del artista.

En el camino de Toledo a Granada, y con posible origen en un pequeño castillo árabe localizado por algunos historiadores en lo que hoy es la ermita de San Juan, nació la villa de Almagro, ( ciudad desde 1796). Poco después de la batalla de Las Navas de Tolosa, que tuvo lugar en 1212, le fue otorgado fuero por fray Gonzalo Yáñez de Noboa, IX maestre de la Orden de Calatrava, y lo confirmó en 1222 el rey Fernando III el Santo. Capital de los calatravos y de lo que después se ha dado en llamar Campo de Calatrava, alcanzó pronto tal pujanza que el rey Alfonso X el Sabio convocó Cortes en ella en 1273.

La plaza medieval sufrió una notable transformación a lo largo del siglo XVI, coincidiendo con la llegada a Almagro de los Fúcar - castellanización del apellido flamenco Fugger , banqueros súbditos del emperador Carlos V, a quienes se les había arrendado las minas de azogue de Almadén como privilegio por el apoyo económico de la banca familiar durante las guerras de Europa. Se levantaron nuevos edificios en la plaza y se debe a ellos la influencia de las galerías acristaladas, con recuerdos septentrionales, que ennoblecen y dan un aspecto singular a los dos lados mayores de esta Plaza Mayor de Almagro, denominación con la que tradicionalmente se le ha conocido, aunque en distintos momentos haya recibido otros nombre como de la Constitución, de la República, Real o de España, tras la última Guerra Civil. En la década de 1960 se comenzó su restauración que concluyó en 1967, tal como figura en una placa colocada en el edificio del Ayuntamiento. La obra, dirigida por el arquitecto Francisco Pons-Sorolla, devolvió al singular conjunto la nobleza y el esplendor del siglo XVI.

De planta rectangular irregular, uno de sus lados mayores se abre en la parte correspondiente al Palacio Maestral, y según planos antiguos tiene 125 varas de longitud por 44 de anchura, es decir, 104,5 por 37 metros, aproximadamente (Wikipedia)
