On the set of the dystopian science-fiction movie Ready Player One, being filmed around the western parts of Birmingham City Centre. For the duration of the film, the city centre has been decked out to look like the horrifying future of 2044 Ohio, with burning oil drums, graffiti on the walls (which already had graffiti on them!) and a selection of old vehicles from both Europe and America which have been battered and broken to resemble the results of years of neglect and vandalism.
For the film, a selection of US Post Office vehicles have been the principal stars of the show in what appears to be a chase scene through the streets of Birmingham. The vehicle demonstrated here is a Renault Twizy, of which there were many scurrying about the set. I have a suspicion the filmmakers have signed a product placement deal with Renault to promote their small electric runabouts!
The Renault Twizy is a battery-powered 2 seat electric city car designed and marketed by Renault and manufactured in Valladolid, Spain. Legally classified in Europe as a heavy quadricycle (light quadricycle for the lower-powered Urban 45 model), the Twizy has a maximum range of 62 miles.
The Twizy debuted as a concept car at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show and was designed by Françoise Leboinne and Luciano Bove. In November 2010, Nissan announced a rebadged variant to the Twizy, called the New Mobility Concept, or NMC. In May 2011, Renault announced they would produce the Twizy and began taking reservations.
In March 2012, the Twizy was released to the France market, followed a month later in the UK and several other European countries. Available in three models, starting at €6,990 up to €8,490 (in the UK: GB£6,990 to GB£7,400), the Twizy sales price does not include the battery pack, which is leased for a monthly fee that includes roadside assistance and a battery replacement guarantee.
The Twizy was the top-selling plug-in electric vehicle in Europe during 2012. The milestone of 15,000 Twizys sold worldwide was achieved in April 2015. As of May 2016, the European region is the top selling market with over 17,000 units sold, led by Germany (4,404), France (4,048) and Italy (2,696).
I saw this strange looking step van with a Isuzu-esque grille. Upon closer inspection, it had a badge on the side that read Powered by Isuzu. The grille reminded me of the US only SUV that we never got up here. Assender, I think it was.
Does anyone know more about this obscure looking work horse?
Like, were they common and were they only sold in the US or Canada too?
REAL-WORLD ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED! All major parcel/courier delivery service brands operating in the Ottawa area photographed in the parking lot where I work!
An older-style Grumman-Olson UPS step van parked outside the Rogers Wireless store in the Merivale Market plaza on Merivale Road in the Ottawa suburb of Nepean.
These American built cars were built by Bethlehem Steel Company. The courier parcel delivery vans were shipped from Ottawa to the Maritimes. The photo was taken when I worked for the Ottawa Central Railway (OCR OCRR) Walkley train yard.

These classic UPS style step vans seem to be disappearing now, as more are replaced with new offerings from UtiliMaster or narrow body offerings such as RAM Promaster or Ford Transit. Unit 113539 is seen here on 3rd in downtown Seattle making the rounds.

My very modest FedEx delivery van collection.
Left: a Utilimaster FedEx delivery van, scale not indicated, from Advantage Industries collectables.
Middle: a Mercedes-Benz/Dodge Sprinter FedEx Ground delivery van, 1/87 (HO) scale, from Model Power Minis.
Right: a Ford F-Series "Ford Box Truck" FedEx truck, 1/80 scale, from Mattel Matchbox.
I got all of these from Value Village $2/$3 toy car grab bags. I do technically have one Mattel Hot Wheels car with the FedEx logo on it, but it's a Formula 1 Ferrari and wouldn't fit in with this group.

This old Grumman Olson is probably fixable, but for now it just sits quietly in Long Island City, frightening children.

And I can't possibly end a mini photo series of courier vans visiting the parking lot where I work without at least one photo of a FedEx truck.

Before anyone asks, no, I have never taken a decent photo of a UPS truck visiting the Merivale Road Food Basics parking lot.

The HTS-10T Ultra-Rack is an excellent safety and productivity application for produce delivery companies and parcel delivery companies. Produce companies can save thousands of dollars annually by preventing costly temperature loss from the cargo area and reduce the risk of bacterial cross-contamination to food products. Parcel and freight companies can increase cargo space, reduce product damage and prevent insurance freight claims. The HTS also prevents the route driver from leaving the warehouse without their hand truck or at previous delivery stop, preventing fuel loss, labor costs and equipment replacement costs.
It’s all about safety, ergonomics, cargo space, bacterial cross-contamination, temperature loss, physical effort, worker injures and route delivery time. The HTS also prevents the driver from leaving the warehouse without their hand truck or at previous delivery stop, preventing fuel loss, labor costs and equipment replacement costs.
