"Named after General Casmir Pulaski, the Polish hero who was mortally wounded at the Siege of Savannah 1779. Begun in 1829 and completed in 1847, the fort was constructed principally under Lt. J.F.K Mansfield. There Robert E. Lee saw his first service after his graduation from West Point.

Fort Pulaski was never garrisoned until its seizure by Georgia troops in 1861 to prevent occupation by Federal forces. On April 10, 1862, Federal batteries on Tybee Island commenced the bombardment of Fort Pulaski. After 30 hours of bombardment as a result of which the walls were breached and its guns disabled. Col H. Olmstead surrendered the Fort. The bombardment marked the first effective use of rifled cannon against a masonry fortification and constituted an epoch in military history.

Abandoned by 1885, Fort Pulaski became a national monument in 1924 and placed under the national park service in 1933."

The Space Shuttle Challenger exploded on Jan. 28, 1986, just seconds after take off, killing all seven crew members. It was nearly two months before the remains were recovered from the ocean floor, about 18 miles off the shore of Cape Canaveral.

Both Captain Michael Smith, the pilot of the Challenger and Francis "Dick" Scobee's cremated remains were interred in Arlington National Cemetery. Early on the morning of May 20, 1986, the unidentified remains of all seven astronauts were buried in the Cemetery.

It was decided by family members and NASA to construct the monument over the cremated remains of the crew.

Family members of the seven Challenger astronauts and approximately 400 people attended the dedication ceremony on the morning of March 21, 1987, including then Vice President and Mrs. George Bush.

The Detroit-Michigan Stove Company produced this Detroit Jewel Gas Range in the 1930s. The enameled-iron range includes an oven, a broiler, a drip catcher, and four burners. Gas fuel provided an instant and constant heat source and burned cleaner than coal and wood burning stoves. The enamel surface made the stove easier to clean. By the early 1900s, many households switched to electric lighting, leaving the gas companies searching for a new use for their product. Gas stoves successfully competed with electric stoves

They married in 1821. Colles needed a house on his new property. On October 14, 1836 Mr Colles engaged a New York architect Martin E. Thompson to design and build a home for him in Morristown. The original structure was a large square building, to this day the only Greek Revival house in Morristown. Intended as a summer home only, the building was reminiscent of southern plantation splendor with its great columns, wide veranda, marble fireplaces, and high ceilings.
