This is a prototype calendar UI that I developed, based on the concept of the fibonacci rectangle:

www.mcs.surrey.ac.uk/Personal/R.Knott/Fibonacci/fibnat.ht...

The idea is that the UI shows 4 days worth of data, but in decreasing detail based on the day's proximity to today.

I made The Cartographer for my partner and I to use whilst travelling Europe in a motorhome. When designing The Cartographer, I wanted to capture a romantic past when maps were works of art.

Eureka! This new EM Spectrum exhibit takes advantage of twin 4K UHD screens and all of the coding, user interface, graphic design, and content is entirely new.

For this exhibit, we developed custom software which allows visitors to view both terrestrial and celestial objects across different wavelengths. The exhibit runs on an Ideum 100” dual 4K UHD Pano multitouch table. All of the content was developed specifically for the application. Ideum conducted a multispectral photo shoot for terrestrial objects and helped collect the latest celestial images. We worked with Science World in Vancouver to find appropriate images for the exhibit and collaborated on the content and text descriptions.

The 8K EM spectrum imaging exhibit will debut in the Eureka! Gallery at Science World at Telus World of Science in Vancouver in late February 2015. You can learn more about the Pano 100” multitouch table or the EM Spectrum exhibiton the Ideum website.

I'm working on a full re-design of the Xbox 360 Dashboard for my portfolio. This is the new "Main Menu" dashboard screen.

After concepting on the logo type for a while, we realized that the symbol would be the most important element so I started over to come up with the right sword/infinity combination.

You ever accidentally choose a different language at an ATM and go through with it anyway? You stumble through the menus based on where you remember the buttons being and you eventually get 40 bucks out but you're lost the entire way.

Using paypal in french is just like that.

And me being a big dumb american, I forgot there are no decimals in EU money, only commas.

The City of Boston has listened to my suggestions for improvement to their tax payment page:

Real Property Tax Payments

www.cityofboston.gov/realestate/

It now says:

10-digits PARCEL ID

ward(2)+parcel(5)+subparcel(3) -see the bill

It used to ask for 'Parcel ID (10-digit number)' with no explanation.

Thanks.

You have to admire a job that allows you to make a bumble-bee/owl (a bumblowl?) fly around a mural merely by waving your finger... all while drinking beer.

This is an elaboration on my actionscript webcam motion detection experiments, built as an installation for the Inverge party hosted by North. The idea was to take motion detection and combine it with art in the form of digital drawing and 2d space in the form of a wall mural. The concept is to allow human interaction to affect physical space, freeing oneself from all traditional user interface. The application works by constantly monitoring a webcam, taking snapshots of each frame every millisecond. The pixels in the current frame are compared to pixels in the previous. The difference in brightness within each section determines whether or not motion had occurred in this area of the screen. If motion is detected the coordinates of a rectangular grid around said motion is recorded and the owl is ordered to go to that point. The line drawings begin and follow the owl recording a 'flight path'. A mask is drawn to prevent the owl and its drawing trail from going in front of some of the trees giving the mural a sense of dimension.

Thanks to the great Eric Natzke for the drawing inspiration and open source, and NORTH for being forward thinking enough to encourage digital experimentation.

To try a version of the experiment for yourself, go here: AS3 Motion Detection Drawing Installation. [webcam a must, obv]
