The old leather suitcase. As an Australian, travel is only allowed within your own state so people's suitcases do not get a lot of use these days. No matter, they deserve a rest. For 'Smile on Saturday' the theme is: 'Made of Leather'.

The views from Erice (about 750m altitude; Erice is close to the port of Trapani) along the northern Sicilian coast towards Monte Cofano (about 660 m; in the middle of the image). It seems that everybody who ever came here was attracted to the beauty of this island. In historical times, the Phoenicians or Carthaginians (who fortified Erice and venerated Astarte), then the Greeks (Aphrodite), then the Romans (Venus), then the Byzantines (Mary), then the Muslims, then the Normans (Mary again), The Spanish, the French etc. until Garibaldi made this "Italian" in 1860. The photo was taken at the Castello di Venere (Venus Castle) built by the Normans. A divine lady has always protected this land.

This is a collection of old network BNC (Bayonet Neill–Concelman) connectors and terminators we found buried in a cupboard at work and joined together. Apart from being 20 years behind the times, they would also send the network traffic loopy if we connected them to anything - so the ultimate contraption. Over complicated. Looks impressive. Does nothing!
The BNC was commonly used for early computer networks, including ARCnet, the IBM PC Network, and the 10BASE2 variant of modern Ethernet.

Maybe 1/10 or less of the Cormorants who gathered at the tip of Ft. Pickens Florida for the morning feeding frenzy on 31 March, 2022.
Bad storms the night before lifted the surf up into 5–6-foot swells hiding many of the elongated flock in this shot. This was an amazing experience to witness as the seagulls would circle above waiting for the schools of minnows to near the surface. The Cormorants and Pelicans would just float and keep a watchful eye on the gulls.
Every morning for a week I stood on the beach in witness of these events, not once could I detect what the gulls would do to alert the others. Like ringing a bell in a boxing match, they did something that made the Cormorants and Pelicans converge in a frantic free for all of gorging themselves on the dark clouds of minnows who would have been much better served to stay away from the surface. The Dolphins may well have been responsible, placing the minnows in an oceanic version of being between a rock and a hard spot!
2021 is ending. We have not let go our guard and watching anxiously in vain the unseen, ever mutating semi-life form that ,we were told, killed millions and still killing..... We have lost our trust on others worrying the next human could be working unknowingly for this unseen killing enemies. Is this released by fearful Kali to force us to stare at loss ,, Lost of job, lives, friends , close one.... ; force us to stare at the useless gov ......
The question stands; why would this picture be different from a Real Estate advertisement?
Both would show a structure in an uncritical manner. The difference being -- a Real estate 'document' photo has an intent of use while a 'documentary' style New Topographics photo is a useless image. This is not semantics, but a purpose of use by the photographer at the time of making the image.

Addendum: it is difficult for me to comprehend and subsequently digest the idea of ‘useless’ pictures being worthy of inclusion into the New Topographics genre. But I acquiesce to photography historians who are well adept in this field.
Everybody is taking photos of the lifeless bland interior of those temples, one looking like the other. Because they've been there and need to document this somehow. Nobody will look at these shots anymore. Meta or just another one of those?
