Eric Linville, lead framer, Eco Framing in front of installed TRAP mural, US District Court, McKinleyville

------

New Deal mural painted by Thomas Laman in 1936 under the Treasury Relief Art Program (TRAP) originally for the Eureka Post Office/Courthouse Building. Now located at the McKinleyville Courthouse. Completed in 1937, these murals were created using egg tempera on canvas mounted to three-quarter inch plywood. Originally, they were created for the United States Post Office and Courthouse at 5th and H Streets in Eureka, where they were on display in the courtroom from 1937 until 2013. These murals are Eureka’s only examples of commissioned New Deal artwork, which was federally sponsored decorative artwork executed during the GreatDepression. The murals were removed for restoration and framing in September 2013, and installed in the current facility to coincide with the opening of this courthouse on March, 6, 2015.
