Commonly a tree, the Candlestick Banksia reaches upto 10 metres (33 ft) high, but it is often a shrub in drier areas where it grows between 0.4 to 2 metres (1.3 to 6.6 ft) high. It has long, narrow, serrated leaves and bright yellow inflorescences, or flower spikes, held above the foliage, which appear in spring and summer.

A real mixed bag of weather on my trip upto Connemara this week. Sunshine one minute and heavy downpours of rain the next.
Sadly the drones were grounded as the winds were gusting at 50km/h. So all ground based photos from this trip. The rainbow was a real bonus too.

It's been a while since I went upto my mountain for a walkabout. I finally was able to go one morning recently.
And can you believe it... This is what was waiting for me when I got to my quiet place.
A mother Doe and her Fawn were rummaging for food. So I sat on the ground and watched them for over 20 minutes. They were so comfortable around me that the little fawn came so close to me, it was absolutely a precious moment!
Don't you just LOVE Nature and all her beauty!!

On my way upto Black Law in the Southern Uplands. It was a tad windy downstairs but it was blowing a hoolie on the exposed hillsides up here. The fine snow was like mist racing over the barren hillsides.

A lone monarch of the frozen realm — 82.5° North
We sailed way upto 82.5° north, where the world is a vast expanse of frozen silence, a lone polar bear moves across the drifting pack ice. The sheets of ice stretch endlessly into the pale horizon, fractured by leads of dark, frigid water. Its massive paws, broad and fur-padded, press softly into the snow, built perfectly for this shifting, fragile world. The bear pauses, its white coat merging with the glacial landscape, only its dark eyes and nose betraying its presence against the endless whiteness. Around it, the Arctic wind sweeps fine crystals across the ice, and the low sun casts a golden glow that shimmers on the frozen ridges. In this stark, unforgiving latitude, the bear is both ruler and wanderer—an emblem of resilience in a world balanced delicately between ice and sea, the dense fog was playing hide and seek and we were waiting for some moments or seconds and holding our breaths to keep this moment safe in cards and heart for ever .

Wondered upto the Halo. 5 mins walk from home, so over shot... but needed a breath of fresh air and horses were being unsocialable and wouldn't canter over.

Had a walk upto the ridge looking out towards Tryfan above the small lake Llyn Bochlwyd for sunset, Although a nice view up there I was struggling to find foregrounds as when the light got at its best all the foreground fell in shade so I just settled on a simple straight on view.
A Large bird of flight weighing upto 4-5 Kg (10-12 lbs) with a 4-5 ft of wing span.
I visited a Pelican Sanctuary and it is breeding season. There are around 3-4000 of them jostling all over the place in all kinds of activities. I searched for little chicks, but then most of them were quite hidden away from sight.
The Pelicans would land in the water, collect twigs for the nest and then triumphantly get back to the nest.
Many thanks for your views and/or feedback. All kinds of feedback is welcome!
Going upto a stranger and asking if you can take their picture takes a bit of getting used to. Most people don't mind, some pose for you but are disgruntled nonetheless :-)
Trekked upto Hunstanton beach last August to catch the low tide and sunset combo, was surprised how fast the tide came in.
Chanonry point, Moray Firth. Although the bottlenose dolphin can grow upto 4m long and weigh 650kg (which I suspect this one is having seen it leaping from the water) they do have difficulty in eating such large salmon - my guess would be that this one was about 3-4kg. In order to get it down it needs to be at the correct angle otherwise it is rejected (as in the image) and the dolphin has another go. This can go on for quite a time - in this case about 15 minutes. It is a great event to experience.
i set off nice and early this morning with high hopes of capturing some dramatic stormy skies over the coast.travelling the 35 miles or so upto Craster i encountered several snow showers which made me really optimistic of getting some decent shots.so far everything was well.having loaded up with gear,i set off from craster on the 10minute walk to black hole, this is when it all changed.as soon as i got onto the exposed coastal stretch i could really feel the near gale force wind coming down from the north, then it got worse.another heavy snow storm descended and visibilty, which was just about zero as it was an hour before sunrise, diminished to about 20 feet.the rocks were wet from the receeding tide and the exposed ones were topped with ice.i looked north and got blasted with snow straight in the face.this is the first time i really contemplated going home empty handed.70miles travelled for nothing at 5.30am.nope i decided to wait 20minutes.i watched massive waves breaking over black hole and thought this would be great if the weather was better.the though of an oppourtunity made me stay.
within 20 minutes or so the clouds split open and the darkness was replaced by some fantastic light, visibilty improved and it was then i was so pleased i was patient.
the rest as they say is history,i enjoyed a great shoot in some fantastic light conditions.that said the wind chill of about minus 5 never went and i returned to the car with red fingers that i could barely move, job done.

Took another trip upto this amazing ship just lying in the dee estury. After hearing many storys about this place we opted to shoot form the safety of the public footpath on the outskirts...
driving upto the Lasithi Plateau we stopped briefly at this odd little museum "Homo Sapiens" at about 300m with a lovely view backto the coast.
