Excerpt from bluelapisroad.wordpress.com/2022/02/18/architectural-gem-...:

In Kennedy Town, less than three hundred meters from Smithfield Municipal Market and Forbes Street Playground (site of the former slaughterhouses), a sleepy neighbourhood has been tucked away on a quiet hill slope for a hundred years. A staircase on Sands Street is all it takes to separate the two worlds, one bustling and the other tranquil. Once consisted of seven terraces built on the slope between Hong Kong University above and Belcher’s Street below, the secluded neighbourhood is commonly known as the Seven Terraces of Sai Wan (西環七臺). Also called Western District, “Sai Wan” is the general name for the area encompassing Kennedy Town (堅尼地城), Shek Tong Tsui (石塘咀) and Sai Ying Pun (西營盤). The seven terraces can be traced back to Li Sing (李陞), the richest Chinese merchant in 19th century Hong Kong. One of his sons Li Po Lung (李寶龍) inherited the sloped land when his father died in 1900. Li Po Lung decided to develop the land into residential terraces and an amusement park. He named the terraces and amusement park with references to his favorite ancient Chinese poet Li Bai (李白). Chinese pavilions, outdoor stages, dance floors, merry-go-round, playgrounds, and even an artificial pond for rowing boats, coupled with street performances, handicraft fair, small fireworks, chess competitions, etc. made Tai Pak Lau (太白樓), Li’s amusement park, into a trendy destination from 1915 and on. It was especially popular with wealthy men and prostitutes coming from the nearby Shek Tong Tsui (石塘咀), the city’s most famous red light and entertainment district in early 20th century. Just like many places in Hong Kong, Tai Pak Lau was rather short-lived, lasting for merely nine years before closing down due to financial difficulties of Li Po Lung. The park was then converted into today’s Tai Pak Terrace (太白臺) residential street. Despite the bankruptcy of Li Po Lung in 1924, the seven terraces, especially the topmost terraces such as Academic Terrace (學士臺), To Li Terrace (桃李臺) and Ching Lin Terrace (青蓮臺), continued to thrive as an upscale residential neighbourhood for wealthy Chinese.

This home was an upscale home back in the 1800's old west in Bodie, California. It's a bit creaky today, but looks pretty good considering all it's been through.

Bodie was quite the mining town at one time.... and they say that life wasn't worth a penny. Gun fights, murders and etc took place everyday....... I think they figured a stranger might last 6 days max... hahaaa... geeeeeez

There was no law.

One of many I saw in Cincinnati Ohio on a recent trip.

Another thing Anita and I saw as we were out driving a couple of weeks ago. This was right next to the hobbit houses. The last time we passed through here there was only one hobbit house and now there are three! I don't think this little shed was painted then as I sure did not notice it. The words on the front say: Let the beauty of the .....?... and our God be upon us. The sign on the side says "Smile, your on camera". LOL.. well I expect we have been on plenty of cameras in our rides out and about!

The side pool to the Andaz Hotel and Resort in Maui. Lovely reflections.

At the far end of a peninsula, Captain Strife finds a rare treasure, Ifrit Summoning Materia.

Sometime between day one and two of Vignette Week, I decided to base all of my builds off of Final Fantasy VII. The "Classic Pirate" prompt put a wrench in those plans. This features an Islander statue based off of the one from set #6278. This depicts an alternate reality pirate version of Cloud and Barrett.

This was built for the 4th day of Vignette Week, with the prompt "Classic Pirate." This prompt forced me to step away from Final Fantasy VII, but I put a FF7 twist to the figures and treasure.

It is interesting to me how a crisis brings life into focus, elevating relationships, family, neighborhood, love and kindness, while diminishing glitz and glamor, materialism, and selfishness as we take stock of what is really important.

AI on Nightcafe - this is #1c of several versions which was enhanced with 'Clarity Upscale'. Since this gave me a very sharp result, I was able to further upscale it on my computer with the Microsoft Windows Photo app.

The origin of the evolve goes back over a year ago, but started much earlier, using the prompts in various onfigurations.

The word Armageddon appears only once in the Greek New Testament, in Revelation 16:16. The word is a Greek transliteration of the Hebrew har məgīddō (הר מגידו). Har means "a mountain" or "a range of hills".

I am a fan of Chunpo Cheng's upscaled builds, and in particular this upscaled flower stem with white flowers. I built a version of my own, pictured in my garden. The flower is upscaled about 10 fold. A LEGO version is 1.5 cm tall and the upscaled version is 15 cm tall.

See Chungpo Cheng's original build photo and size comparison here.

The flower is just perfectly scaled for a garden, table or your desk. The best thing about it, besides being made of LEGO, is that it won't require watering, as long as you don't forget to dust every now and then.

Can't wait to see what Chungpo Cheng will upscale next. If you don't follow him, I would suggest you take a look at his other marvelous and well done upscales LEGO parts. Chungpo Cheng's Flickr stream

Ponta Negra is an upscale neighborhood in the Brazilian city of Manaus, Amazonas state capital. It is located in the city's West Zone. According to the census of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), its population was 5007 inhabitants in 2010.

Although considered prime area, the increasing number of rennet cheese sellers boardwalk Ponta Negra have done to decrease the HDI in the region. The Movement Queijinho Vendors (MVQ), led by PT Laish Rebolledo Alencar, argues that the working class should also have the right to access view of the Rio Negro. Social conflicts between the residents of the luxury buildings and the representatives of the MVQ have grown and do not know what will be in the neighborhood of tomorrow.

History: - where today is located the neighborhood of Ponta Negra, but it is known that the region, around 1650, was inhabited by indigenous tribes. According to data historian, writer and plastic artist Moacir de Andrade, a mission was founded by Jesuits in Tarumã area, with the existence of Arawak Indians and Alófila, but no one knows for sure if there is a connection to the Ponta Negra.

"One way downhill having two inlet ends of which are lined with weeds." So Mario Ypiranga Monteiro designated the Ponta Negra beach which dominates the landscape of the neighborhood. No one knows for sure the year of the emergence of what would become the postcard of the city. However, it is known that in the golden period of the rubber, the region served as a supplier of raw materials for the buildings, so that was called Areal, precisely because it has a lot of sand in place. Ponta Negra, also left large amounts of coal and stones. On site there was a large property where it was grown cashews which the large trees became known as Cajual.

For a long time, the only way to access the beach of Ponta Negra was through boats, given their isolation from other neighborhoods of Manaus. In the first government of Gilberto Mestrinho from 1959 to 1963, which opened the access road to the site, but still get to the beach was an adventure, because the road was mud and did not offer security to passersby and not to vehicle drivers. The beach was establishing itself as a meeting point of the Amazonian society, where families were headed on weekends and holidays, especially in the warmer months of August, September and October. However, the Ponta Negra modernization process begins even with the road duplication in the early 1970s, and the construction of residential sets, such as Jardim Europa, which for many years remained the most distant residential area of the center City.. From: pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ponta_Negra_(Manaus)
