I located a small group of these orchids (5 or 6 plants) growing in a path between a weedy field (goldenrod, aster, milkweed, black-eyed susan, etc.) and a thicket (black berry, buckthorn, aspen, etc.). I first found and photographed them on 9 Sept. 2014 and occasionally revisited and photographed them through 19 October 2014. I suspect they may be S. ovalis, but they seem a bit out of range and I'm not at all familiar with the extent of variability in the other (more common?) Michigan Spiranthes. I would appreciate any opinions on the identity of these plants.
I'm not sure what kind of bird this is, but it sure is pretty. Taken in Taken in Zooz Nature Park, Stevensville, Ontario.
