Mr.Amin is a grass-cutter/hedge-trimmer by profession who hails from Seremban. He works 4 days a week including weekends & spends the rest of his free time traveling around Kuala Lumpur & observing people. He enjoys watching people interact with each other & also their surroundings & how this would affect him as a citizen in his community. This is how I got to meet him. He saw me taking photos near where he was standing & said "Hello, are you from the press? Can you actually take photos in the rain?". Despite his outward appearance which may hinder a lot of people Mr.Amin is truly a fascinating & nice fellow who happily helps out strangers with directions around town whenever he can. To me, he is a living symbol of the theme "Love & Unity".

In 2009, the Rhondda Cynon Taff local authority, in conjunction with the Arts Council of Wales, erected a new piece of public sculpture just outside Pontypridd. Christened Unity, the sculpture stands on land beside the Ynysangharad War Memorial Park, and is intended to bring new visitors into one of South Wales' most exploited and neglected former mining towns. The sculpture represents three aspects of Pontypridd's heritage: the town's famous bridge, the mines that populated the town in the 1800's and 1900's, and the way that the British fleet relied on both coal and locally-manufactured chains.

Unity or Lunacy? You decide.

The sculpture is largely invisible to anyone travelling up the major road from Cardiff until you've passed the turn-off for Pontypridd, which limits its ability to draw passing tourists into the town. In common with both RCT and Cardiff's local authority, there's no memory of the Glamorganshire Canal incorporated into the sculpture - without the canal, the Chainworks would never have come to Pontypridd in 1816. And there's no incorporation either of the Taff Vale Railway, still in operation today and visible from the site of the sculpture.

Time will tell whether this piece of public sculpture will be an asset or a communist-red (as opposed to white) elephant for the town, but it seems unlikely to become as iconic a piece as the Angel Of The North.

Frank Lloyd Wright's Unity Temple, located on Lake Street in Oak Park, was built between 1905 and 1908. It is considered to be one of Wright's most "important" designs, and is currently home to Oak Park's Unitarian Universalist Congregation. Unity Temple was declared a U.S. National Historic Landmark in 1971.

Unity, By Simon Donovan and Ben Olmstead, Tucson, AZ

www.grantroad.info/public-art

"For the Grant Road Improvement Project Phase 2, Simon Donovan & Ben Olmstead were selected to complete artwork for the project. The sculpture they created is called Unity and is comprised of five figures, three female, two male. Each one is approximately 10 feet tall. They stand in a circle facing outward, holding hands and leaning far forward. They would tumble forward if not for the cooperation, trust, and collective effort that is required in forming an unbroken ring. Thus the title "Unity".

"The sculpture is made of hundreds of parallel, vertically aligned stainless steel plates, each held 1 inch apart. The result is a study of figures with a shifting perception of form as one moves around the sculpture. Additionally, it will be illuminated with amber colored LED lights at night."
