Frank Lloyd Wright's Unity Temple, located on Lake Street in Oak Park, was built between 1905 and 1908. It is considered to be one of Wright's most "important" designs, and is currently home to Oak Park's Unitarian Universalist Congregation. Unity Temple was declared a U.S. National Historic Landmark in 1971.

Tonight, I borrowed the "anniversary coin" of a man in Alcoholics Anonymous, for a macro session. The Roman numeral 13 indicates that he's thirteen years sober.

Unity, By Simon Donovan and Ben Olmstead, Tucson, AZ

www.grantroad.info/public-art

"For the Grant Road Improvement Project Phase 2, Simon Donovan & Ben Olmstead were selected to complete artwork for the project. The sculpture they created is called Unity and is comprised of five figures, three female, two male. Each one is approximately 10 feet tall. They stand in a circle facing outward, holding hands and leaning far forward. They would tumble forward if not for the cooperation, trust, and collective effort that is required in forming an unbroken ring. Thus the title "Unity".

"The sculpture is made of hundreds of parallel, vertically aligned stainless steel plates, each held 1 inch apart. The result is a study of figures with a shifting perception of form as one moves around the sculpture. Additionally, it will be illuminated with amber colored LED lights at night."

This is embarrassing for an architecture geek to admit, but having lived in Chicago for 35 years I had never been to nearby Oak Park to see any of Frank Lloyd Wright's buildings. Yesterday I remedied that oversight. Of course, I had to see Wright's Unity Temple considered by some as the very first modernist building. The arrangement of concrete shapes belies Wright's unique design of the interior space.

Unity chalice:

Earth...clay

Wood...aspen collar

Metal...brass corners and feet

Water...water in glass container in bowl

Fire...lit tea light floating in water

Pyramid base gives it pyramid power and each face represents a season and a direction

Base of pyramid is square, corners and faces are triangles, bowl is round bringing in the cosmic shapes of Triangle Circle and Square.

Base of pyramid is green which represents abundance

Aspen collar adds a colorado home feeling

Tradtional Japanese Raku fired with Western raku twist. .... East meet West and old meets new

Kintsukuroi ....the crack which happened during firing is highlighted with gold as opposed to trying to hide its flaws

Body of pyramid is hollow with a false bottom to store away prayers, wishes, poems, ashes, bones

And other such relics.

The external cladding of the Unity building is arranged in a "dazzle" camouflage pattern based on that applied to ships on the Mersey during the war.

The top of the Unity building features a distinctive box structure containing two penthouses. I don't see how this is as a natural development of the architecture below but it gives the building a strong visual identity on the skyline.

Saturday was an absolute whirlwind of activities. There were so many events and parties, that Xavier and I decided we woud try to hit them all.

We had to dress up in formal wear because of the Instyle Winter Ball Masquerade Party. Oh, what fun! Beautiful dresses and gorgeous models roamed the party as we danced to the electronica. I had a blast!

Next up was Jades Jazz Island, an invite from Montana Laurasia. Joaquin Gustav, a Spanish flamenco guitarist was playing. So beautiful! There were 71 people there for that event and lag was a bit difficult for the camera.

ColeMarie sent an invite to the World Wide Industry event on Deep Blue Devil sim. Edgy fashions and art wear were featured there. Favorites were the high top converse that went up to the calves and the incredible fire dress. WOW!

My angel Xavier got an invite from his good friend, DJ Xavier Amat who was having a party at his club GIVEmeSPACE. Pubic chat got confusing as both of them are named Xavier. LOL!

Then a dinner break. I snuck off to hear DJ Emi Halcali spin a 30 minute psy set. Oh how I needed that! A small gathering, an intimate setting at Dementia Radio, I had a very chill time listenining to her. TY Emi!

The Dealer was calling... DJ Jen Noel was over at Sphynx Jazz Club. She spins Spanish influences of jazz, flamenco, salsa and tango. Contemporary tunes are mixed in too for a beautiful, romantic set. I saw well-known psy DJ Healer in holiday clothes chilling to The Dealer's music.

Then a stopover at DeRailed for furry DJ Blabbermouth. Xavier loved this dj! Old school Electro, Goth, Psytrance and Synthpop... Xavi was in heaven. :^)

Later, I snuck off to F.I.V.e Unity Event. I caught DJ 8wall Wrigglesworth spinning there with his special brand of music. Always love 8wall's set! Earlier, Xavier and I saw trance DJ Morex Marx and Goa Master Thomtrance Otoole. That was an awesome event! Clubs Vital, Experience, Amsterdam and others were involved with that event.

At the end of the evening, we both were absolutely exhausted. What a fun Saturday night on the Second Life grid. Woot!

I think this speaks for itself.

Soon to be released as Unity Core, a command line interface distribution 115MB in size using 10MB of total memory. But will it install? We've custom written an installer in bash based on Mandriva's installer so that you can boot to a cli live disk and install it. Available at a Unity Linux website near you soon.

Unity is not an aspiration I am aiming for

It is already wholly here

Unity is an awakening to itself

That finds that I am one with the worst of man and the best of man

I am one with the midge and with the mountain

With the slowest and the quickest

With the cruelest and the kindest

With all and with nothing

I am one with everything

And that is why I MUST forgive.
