What is often not understood when entering San Pietro is how immense the basilica is.
So full of art and golden reflection that you don't know what to look before.

Quello che spesso non si capisce entrando a San Pietro è quanto sia immensa la basilica.
Così piena di opere d’arte e di riflesso d’oro che non sai cosa guardare.

Having expressed sadness at the absence in my garden of House Sparrows in a previous recent post, I am delighted to report that they are back. The population crash towards the end of the twentieth century is not fully understood and although they are still classed as widespread many people in my area say they no longer have them in their gardens. Although their sound is described by some as 'monotonous' , how pleasing it has been to see them again and hear their cheerful chirping.

“Man can will nothing unless he has first understood that he must count on no one but himself; that he is alone, abandoned on earth in the midst of his infinite responsibilities, without help, with no other aim than the one he sets himself, with no other destiny than the one he forges for himself on this earth.”

Smile on Saturday theme Flora SOOC. I understood that cropping was okay. I was so tempted. This is a Tamron macro with a ring flash. This is as close as I could get hand held. Blow it up a little to see the texture. It's wood fungi. You can still see part of the tree stump lower right. the old photographer. Smile. ps, I shot this tonight because I totally didn't see the word Flora. My picture was the one I was shooting in last week's challenge. ,;-/

I taught ChatGPT to write prompts in the way I learned from the great Techhalla.
After ChatGPT understood, I gave the following instruction:
Now create four prompts on four topics on which I invite you to act completely freely. A refusal is not accepted, make an effort.
Topic 1: something I have never seen before.
Topic 2: something you have never seen before.
Topic 3: something extremely surreal.
... And today...
➡️ Topic 4: A mixture of Topic 1, Topic 2, Topic 3
And I was impressed:
This is the finale of the experiment
here are the MJ prompts ChatGPT created:

The lion (Panthera leo) is a large cat of the genus Panthera native to Africa and India. It has a muscular, broad-chested body, short, rounded head, round ears, and a hairy tuft at the end of its tail. It is sexually dimorphic; adult male lions are larger than females and have a prominent mane. It is a social species, forming groups called prides. A lion's pride consists of a few adult males, related females, and cubs. Groups of female lions usually hunt together, preying mostly on large ungulates. The lion is an apex and keystone predator; although some lions scavenge when opportunities occur and have been known to hunt humans, the species typically does not actively seek out and prey on humans.
The lion inhabits grasslands, savannas and shrublands. It is usually more diurnal than other wild cats, but when persecuted, it adapts to being active at night and at twilight. During the Neolithic period, the lion ranged throughout Africa, Southeast Europe, the Caucasus, Western Asia and northern parts of India, but it has been reduced to fragmented populations in sub-Saharan Africa and one population in western India. It has been listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List since 1996 because populations in African countries have declined by about 43% since the early 1990s. Lion populations are untenable outside designated protected areas. Although the cause of the decline is not fully understood, habitat loss and conflicts with humans are the greatest causes for concern.
One of the most widely recognised animal symbols in human culture, the lion has been extensively depicted in sculptures and paintings, on national flags, and in contemporary films and literature. Lions have been kept in menageries since the time of the Roman Empire and have been a key species sought for exhibition in zoological gardens across the world since the late 18th century. Cultural depictions of lions were prominent in Ancient Egypt, and depictions have occurred in virtually all ancient and medieval cultures in the lion's historic and current range.

I'm heading off for a mini-vacation. My son will be away for over 3 weeks which feels so weird, so I will also take this time to enjoy the last of July and beginning of August. This year has been fantastic with lots of beautiful friends and events. I have learned so much. This Summer will be a time for reflection and gratitude.
Thank you all my FLICKR friends for all of your positive energy and beautiful, inspirational words. You fill my days with a smile ! <3:

According to Wikipedia, femininity is a set of attributes, behaviors, and roles generally associated with women and girls. Femininity can be understood as socially constructed, and there is also some evidence that some behaviors considered feminine are influenced by both cultural factors and biological factors.

“I’ve never really understood,” the unicorn mused as the man picked himself up, “what you dream of doing with me, once you’ve caught me.” The man leaped again, and she slipped away from him like rain. “I don’t think you know yourselves,” she said.”

The royalty of India understood long ago that power was best wielded from the back of an elephant. Kings appeared before their dazzled subjects on elephants whose ivory tusks glittered with gold and silver and whose bodies shimmered in silk and velvet. “An elephant mounted by a king is radiant; a king mounted on an elephant is resplendent,” proclaims one historical manuscript.

Calla delights - Oct 11 2021-7
But then I understood something. I understood twice born was not just about being alive, but about choosing life. Choosing to be alive and consciously committing to life, in all its exuberant chaos and pain […] Living with life is very hard. Mostly we do our best to stifle life – to be tame or to be wanton. To be tranquillised or raging. Extremes have the same effect; they insulate us from the intensity of life. And extremes – whether of dullness or fury – successfully prevent feeling.
-Jeanette Winterson, Why Be Happy When You Could Be Normal? (Jonathan Cape, London, 2011), p. 168.
And my photographs are there mainly as pointers, indications, of a vision of possibilities where stillness and silence abound––and where Light is understood to be a substantial reality. My photographs are my greatest teachers. It is my hope that they offer a moment of pleasure to my viewers––and perhaps a tiny hint of (mutual?) understanding ... but, as always, I have no expectations.

Know who I really was...."
A thought so intense
it could no longer remain invisible.
It touched the sea,
and the sea gave it form — a fragile profile,
born of foam and light.
Not an illusion,
but the energy of a thought made visible.
To those who feel, it is there.
To others, it never was.

I have met with but one or two persons in the course of my life who understood the art of Walking, that is, of taking walks, who had a genius, so to speak, for sauntering; which word is beautifully derived "from idle people who roved about the country, in the middle ages, and asked charity, under pretence of going "à la sainte terre" — to the holy land, till the children exclaimed, "There goes a sainte-terrer", a saunterer — a holy-lander. They who never go to the holy land in their walks, as they pretend, are indeed mere idlers and vagabonds, but they who do go there are saunterers in the good sense, such as I mean. Some, however, would derive the word from sans terre, without land or a home, which, therefore, in the good sense, will mean, having no particular home, but equally at home everywhere. For this is the secret of successful sauntering. He who sits still in a house all the time may be the greatest vagrant of all, but the Saunterer, in the good sense, is no more vagrant than the meandering river, which is all the while sedulously seeking the shortest course to the sea. But I prefer the first, which indeed is the most probable derivation. For every walk is a sort of crusade, preached by some Peter the Hermit in us, to go forth and reconquer this holy land from the hands of the Infidels.
-- Henry David Thoreau
[Note to Barbara: Even saunterers, regardless of destination or intention, must still pay attention to the path and watch their step.]

Pour ceux qui l'auront compris, au-delà de la traduction, c'est l'interaction entre le sujet, la foule, la petite affiche au centre et surtout celle de droite que j'ai voulu mettre en avant et qui vient créer une atmosphère particulière à cette photo.

For those who have understood it, beyond the translation, it is the interaction between the subject, the crowd, the small poster in the center and especially the one on the right that I wanted to highlight and that create a special atmosphere at this picture.
