So this afternoon I spot this. It was loaded and its owner about to leave so I grabbed my camera and got this short glimpse of it leaving.
The car sustained light damage to the bonnet (hood), side plastic spoiler and a dent to the rear wheel rim. Den was helped out of the car through the uppermost door and walked away totally unscathed.
I was staggered that so many parents took their children onto (thawing) Derwentwater today. They took toddlers and babes in arms right onto the centre of the lake (despite the warning signs!). Unbelievable. They also took their prams, dogs, grandparents (at least one with a walking stick!). There's nothing the police can do but it would be a sobering lesson if social services took some action against such crass parents. Rant over!
Got a small Nokia mobile delivered from BT today. look at the size of the packaging! The little nokia box was too big really. There were two sheets of paper in the box as well.
From my daily painting series: This is a small 6" square version of my Greatest Hit - Biggies Smalls "Unbelievable". My original larger version was used for the "Unbelieveable" album cover. Joni Mitchell once said the difference between being a painter and being a singer is that no one ever asked Van Gogh to paint "Starry Night" again - but I bet they did.

On such a tiny doll! There is actually a sculpted deer's head on her belt and her dress fabric has a forest deer motif. Irresistible.

I was told that my Grandfather passed away on January 25th, 2007 (That's one week ago from when I'm writing this). Brandon (my cousin) and I bought tickets hours later and were on a flight back home to Cleveland the next day.
I was happy to see most of the family was in good spirits. The smiles and laughter far outweighed the sobbing and tears. We spent hours looking at old pictures, telling stories and acting silly. It felt like any other family gathering and that's a very good thing.
The day of the wake was hard on all of us. My Grandmother and her children (4 of them) were brought in to the room where my Grandfather's open casket laid. When the grandchildren were permitted in, I remember seeing streams of tears. It's hard to watch your family crying. Soon the people began arriving, and arriving, and arriving... the line of people waiting to pay respects to my Grandfather was out the door. It was very touching to see how many people attended (in a blizzard no less). The family business is construction and when you work on people's houses you tend to make friends with many of them.
The day of the funeral was the hardest for me. We arrived at the mausoleum and along with the family were Navy personnel. My Grandfather had served in the Navy and even though he never really talked about it, it was touching to see them fold the american flag and hand it to my Grandmother. The tears seemed to flow strongest at this moment. After I laid my rose on my Grandfather's coffin, the weight of the moment hit me like a ton of bricks. I walked only a few steps away and started sobbing. I've haven't cried like that in 20 years. As soon as people came over to console me it just increased the intensity. There are few things that move me to tears more than a selfless act and I as I cried I felt hand after hand on my back and all around me. My family was there for me.
We arrived home and I packed my things for the flight back to NYC with Brandon. It was time to go and I yelled across the room to Brandon "Hey, let's go. You ready?" Just then my Aunt Annette came running up to me and said "Rob, Stop! We just got a phone call and Brandon's other Grandfather might have passed away." A minute later it had been confirmed. Most of my family would be going to another funeral in a few short days. Unbelievable.
***UPDATE***9/19/13 Had a very long list of people vying for this one, but Jen was both quick and determined, helping her snap this one up cat quick. This is a nice piece to build a room around. Thank you, and keep following me!

Unbelievable moment with the Three-toed Woodpecker; we are in Farna ecopark in front of this incredible woodpecker male only preoccupied in searching food; knocking with his beak the pine bark to turn out parasites and insects. Normally very shy, he doesn't take care about us, now it makes a long time we don't move and speak, kneeled in the snow, he must think we are a part of the scenery; after a few minutes, other birds arrive, attracted by woodpecker noise ! Willow tit, Crested tit and Eurasian treecreeper, in fact we are in front of a perfect resource sharing example (see photo 7267), small passerines taking advantage of remaining food. Our woodpecker will go down at the tree basis to doze (see photo 7487) !

and the toy of the year award goes to....."ATONE"
THIS IS THE REASON I AM SECRETIVE ABOUT PAINT SPOTS. because people are fucking stupid. writers have been painting in that warehouse for the past 5 years and the business next door obviously did not mind because we kept to ourselves and no one has been arrested in there up until very recently. well, that business went under a couple of weeks ago meaning it should be safer to get in to the building without being seen, BUT this fucking retard thought it would be a good idea to piss off the property owner by putting this toy ass tag right on top of the "available" sign. as a result, cops now make daily trips in and out of the building. i would consider that a "toy" move but in all honesty that is straight up common sense. when there is a chill graff spot, the WORST thing you can do is start tagging shit around it, and you should definately respect surrounding businesses.
A great view of the town. Taken from Sulphur Mountain Cosmic Ray Station. You can see lake Minnewanka in the background. Banff National Park, AB. Canada
Can you believe it? No less than seven weeks has passed since I last saw a Tugly, never mind photted one. Seven weeks. SEVEN BLOODY WEEKS!!! Head duly hung in shame...
Still, here's a nice way to restart as 60015 brakes hard over the marina crossing at Fiddlers Ferry with 6F74 from LBT.
Maybe I'll catch another next Saturday as I make my way north to Kingmoor...

These clouds formed over McKinney, TX, east of my house. To the west, another band of clouds caused the sunset colors to be banded and cast unbelievably layered light on these.

Is it unbelievable to think that Jennifer Aniston looks like that (in the cover) - or is is more unbelievable that she looks like she does in the un-retouched photo? We are constantly fed images of celebs like Aniston who always look amazing. We compare ourselves to the unbelievable.
