The moon's shadow can clearly be seen approaching just before totality on August 21st. A surreal experience.

This is a composite photo of the lunar eclipse on 21st January 2019. Note the colour change in the final image of the Moon (compared to the first image) as it was getting low on the horizon so was becoming more yellow.

This lunar eclipse made me realize how much I'd love a tracking telescope...but hey, I'm in the northeast, I'm lucky enough I didn't get clouded out. No complaints!
What you're looking at is the earth casting its shadow across the face of the moon. The earth's atmosphere is filtering out all but red light, which is the only light that reaches the moon. If you were on the moon, you'd see the earth cover up the sun.
If you dont already know Umbra is the latin word for shadow.
i took this today in the garden playing with my daughter
as you can see my daughter bottom left is reaching out
to me and i am trying to grab her hands but i cant because
there is nothing there to hold on to and looking at this picture now
is very sad for me and i am in 2 minds to take it down but i will wait
until i hear some of your views on it before the UMBRA knows his and hers fate
