We may not be pretty, but we are a family and we got each other!

Facts:

Muscovy ducks (Cairina moschata). Muscovies have a different ancestor from all other domestic ducks. They are better fliers than breeds descended from the wild mallard. Like geese, they are efficient grazers, needing little purchased feed and thriving on good pasture. Muscovies are excellent meat ducks, with the males being almost twice the weight of the females. The females tend to be devoted mothers.

Some called it the ugly duckling! But we had fun driving this car

I was attracted to the love and tender care the mare was showing to its foal. Although the Camargue horses are white and look beautiful, the foals have a brown coat apart from their eyes and mouth until they are about three years old. They reminded me of the story of the swan and the ugly ducklings.

I normally get one or two flowers from this cactus, but this year it could excel itself!

Well in this case a baby coot! There looked to be at least two families of them. It was great watching them waiting for their mummy to dive under and fetch them food. They have very large feet!

This skiff is really a hydro-foil...don't let the looks fool you.

The record shown is "Het lelijke eendje" by Annie M.G. Schmidt, sung by Heleen van Meurs and Ronnie Potsdammer, published by Citroën (2CV) circa 1962. Note: this single played at 33,3 RPM, not 45!

Today's word comes from the Hans Christian Andersen story "The Ugly Duckling", in which a young bird believes himself to be a duck and is unhappy because he doesn't look like a duck, only to later learn that (spoiler alert) he is a beautiful swan. Earliest documented use: 1877.

New Drawing of a piece that I want to make.

Another shot from the lake at Clumber Park. This cygnet had a beautiful colour on his (her?) wings and I loved the autumn colours reflected in the water. I think I would have been happy with just a picture of the water for an abstract image but the swan was an added bonus.

Pastel parking lot. Somebody noted that this menagerie contains a rabbit, a beetle and an ugly duckling.

Yes, Mr. Kungfu, and Miss Borkotron, I modded your skates, cause I wanted to dirty them up a little. Don't worry, I have the originals safe and sound.

If you haven't gotten your ass down to Mr. Tentacle in Harold, please do.

"So the duckling sat in a corner, feeling very low spirited, till the sunshine and the fresh air came into the room through the open door, and then he began to feel such a great longing for a swim on the water, that he could not help telling the hen...

'I believe I must go out into the world again,' said the duckling."

Now that I've watched all of "Breaking Bad" I will always think of Walter White when I see a Pontiac Aztek SUV.
