Becki and I, during our river wander, discovered a dying tree that was decorated by a myriad of rusting lanterns. Unable to resist, we snapped a few! I've recently been exploring new processing techniques, and this photo is an example of it.
I'm not sure what type of flower bud this is. It was spotted on a recent trip to Kilver Court Gardens in Shepton Mallett - there was a whole bunch of them hanging over a bridge and they were tiny but very pretty to look at. There was so little light that I had to shoot handheld at ISO 1600.
These Victorian Railways U louvre vans were originally built with narrow doors, but at a later stage they were fitted with wide doors and blanking was added to the bottom to avoid forklift damage.
This is a modification of an earlier version. The key differences are:
- This version is dark red rather than reddish brown.
- I tried to break up the "louvriness" by adding hand rails on the ends and by blanking the bottom of the doors (thanks for the suggestion gambort)
- I changed the wheel brake and added the brake tie rod (thanks for the tips Brickhead).
The stickers aren't great...the colour match is ok, but the visibility of the edges is annoying.
Currently out on a unconnected limb is the U-bahn service between Berlin Hauptbahnhof and the Brandenburg Gate via the Bundestag. Despite having enormous and very grand stations, one 2-car train is enough to provide a shuttle service on one of the two tracks!
However an extension is under construction.

The U.S. Marshals Service, alongside federal and local law enforcement, conducted Operation North Star II (ONS II), in nine U.S. cities and Puerto Rico, resulting in over 1100 warrants cleared and more than 900 arrests made.
Focusing on state and local felony cases of homicide, sexual assault, robbery, and assault, this one-month operation is intended to disrupt violent crime in some of our most dangerous cities.
In early January, USMS Director Ronald L. Davis launched ONS II, this National Enforcement Initiative aimed at combating violent crime in Albuquerque, NM., Buffalo, NY, Cleveland, OH, Columbus, OH, Detroit, MI, Jackson, MS, Kansas City, MO, Milwaukee, WI, Oakland, CA and the U.S. Territory of Puerto Rico.

Apart from the Vienna (mostly) underground metro network, there are some sections where traditional trams run underground. Most notably this U-Straßenbahn under the Gürtel.
In my view, this is a pretty sad design, where tram passengers have to descend to dark tram stops while the street is some 1+3+3+1 lane road with further, multiple parking lanes and a very narrow sidewalk. It's pretty descriptive that this newer residental housing on the Gürtel includes noise barriers.
Compare this to the (much newer) Hague tram tunnel, where the tunnel created additional tram capacity and the street level have been converted to a pedestrian area.
