Two of my favorite 35mm film cameras: Canon EF (1976) and Asahi Pentax ES II (1973)

The Pentax i purchased on the dutch ebay "Marktplaats" for only € 22,- incl. sunshade, nice cute Gossen sixtino exposure meter and macro tubes. I have put in a film for some test shots. Sounds, looks and feels like in full working order!

I thought this was just a spider (thanks to E_O_S for the ID) but turns out its a harvestman (a close relative), it wasn't until I had a close up look at him that I spotted the face on his back..... I wonder is it to ward off predators??

A female Orchard Swallowtail butterfly (Papilio aegeus) rests on a Pittosporum seedling, having been chased and shadowed by the male (bottom right) for about three minutes. He left her alone though, flying off solo without any further interaction. Wingspan about 10cm.

There seems to be a lot of loons around here. I've probably seen at least one every time I've gone out in the boat. I also hear their tell tale call pretty often.

I'll have to photograph them with a longer lens some day.

These two grave stones in the cemetery of St. Botolph's Church in Apsley Guise are of a husband and wife. Sadly I'm unable to find out any more about them. Their stones are quite decorative and simple in design, which made them stand out in the cemetery.

The inscription on the left reads:

The inscription on the right reads:

just for fun. a painting i did for work. it was just supposed to be something silly for the facebook page. the idea was to portray the characters from a movie in the style of some artist. so this is painted over a famous photograph and (though it's mostly only texture remains) it has a similar composition. i actually used another painting for the project, but i thought i'd just let this one see daylight. can you guess the original photographer? can you guess the movie?

December 2, 2012 on a vist to Sumner a seaside place near city. A hot summers day!

Sumner is nestled in a coastal valley separated from the adjacent city suburbs by rugged volcanic hill ridges that end in cliffs that descend to the sea shore in places. Sumner Bay is the first bay on the northern side of Banks Peninsula and faces Pegasus Bay and the Pacific Ocean.

Because of its ocean exposure, a high surf can form in some swell conditions. The beach is gently sloping, with fine grey sand. It is a popular surf beach for these reasons.

Sand dunes have filled the river valley behind the beach. This has made housing construction relatively easy, although flooding at the head of the valley has been a problem in the past due to the reverse slope caused by the sand dunes filling the front of the valley. This has been addressed by a flood drain.

The rocky volcanic outcrop of Cave Rock dominates the beach. There are other rocky outcrops in the area and the volcanic nature of the geology is readily apparent from several of the exposed cliffs around the valley.

A sea wall and wide esplanade have been built along the length of the beach to prevent coastal erosion.
