Poor old Tuxedo Royale, formerly a nightclub boat, sinking into the Tees near Middlesbrough's Transporter Bridge. It's been derelict for a while and a fire probably started by vandals has made it take on water. The orange boom was placed in case there was oil leaking out. With no clear owner it may fall on the council to decide what happens to it - maybe a final trip to Able UK...

The Mighty Tuxedo

Most men opt for tuxedos on their wedding day, and with good reason. I have yet to meet a guy who doesn’t look dashing in one.

The tuxedo jacket is actually a relative latecomer to formal attire. A cross between a tailcoat and a velvet smoking jacket, it was or...

Day twenty-four of The 100 Day Project for 2021.

A tuxedo cat, looking justifiably disgusted by how he's been rendered in pencil.

There are so many things wrong with today's sketch that I don't even know where to start.

The less said, the better. So I'll just tell you that I sketched the kitteh first with an HB pencil, then added shading around his neck with a 2H pencil.

I tried to show two levels of darkness in the blacks with a 2B and a 6B pencil, but you can't really tell the difference in the end.

The shading looks like a child's colouring attempt, though it was intentional to go outside the lines and not have smooth edges.

This is a pretty good visual interpretation of the really stressful, shitty day I had today, despite it starting off positively.

CAMP ZAMA, Japan - Hundreds of American and Japanese service members donned their dress uniforms while dignitaries, contractors and their spouses sported their evening dresses, tuxedos or Kimonos during the 240th Army Birthday Ball June 26, 2015, at Camp Zama, Japan.

The ball combined the formalities of military ceremonies, the traditions of Japanese celebrations, and the traits of a modern dance club to produce an entertaining atmosphere that encouraged the American hosts and their Japanese guests to eat, drink, dance and mingle with one another.

The celebration formally began when the official party - led by Maj. Gen. James C. Boozer, commanding general, U.S. Army Japan - entered the ballroom. Shortly after taking their seats, a flag detail of U.S. and Japanese Ground Self-Defense Forces soldiers posted the colors. Moments after the detail did their duty , a lone Soldier pulled the Army's official flag off its stand and marched toward center stage. There, he held the colors in silence as Soldiers dressed in period uniforms representing America's major military conflicts since the War of Independence attached campaign streamers to the top of the flag staff. The flag bearer returned the colors to its stand only after all 188 streamers adorned the flag.

The evening's program complimented common Army Ball events such as proposing toasts, playing patriotic music and cutting the ceremonial cake with traditions borrowed from the Land of the Rising Sun. Boozer and Army Command Sgt. Maj. Eric C. Dostie, command sergeant major, USARJ, joined their JGSF counterparts in bashing open a barrel of saki.

Mayer Hawthorne and Jake One have teamed up and given us another album to transport us to another decade – Tuxedo.

“Lost Lover” sucked me in from the very beginning, with its hypnotic synths and rhythm. I knew the production was going to be on point, though, so I wasn’t too surprised. This track definitely sets the tone for the whole album. Jake One sets us off just right with this one, and its new territory for him sonically, but he seems to be doing just fine!

“R U Ready” – gives us more of that analog-synthy-bass and ’70s soulful atmosphere with its soundscape. This is one of the better hooks on the album, for me. Nothing real noteworthy with the lyricism here, these are sensual love songs with some style to them. They do what they’re supposed to do – with production like this, and Hawthorne’s voice, the lyrics can be forgiven.

“Watch the Dance”. I loved the instrumentation in the beginning, we’re getting hit with some nice funk elements, and the song is given power once Mayer steps in with his vocals and the production rises up another notch. Real smooth piano loop in this track that I really dig.

A solid tempo is what we’re introduced to once “So Good” starts. That damn funky electronic work in the back is just the perfect touch – basically folks, there is a particular sound that encompasses the whole album. So all that “synth” “bass” “funk” talk, you’re gonna hear that throughout this review. Don’t blame me. Blame Hawthorne and Jake. They’re the ones who decided to make good music. Which reminds me, I gotta play this in my car and see if it bumps in the whip – which I’m quite sure it does.

We’re given something a bit slower and more sensual with the next track, “Two Wrongs”. Classic ’70s soul, everything about it. The song really comes alive once Hawthorne starts in on the 1st verse, I really like his vocal-flow on this, the rhythm of his voice just works for me on this, that makes it stand out for me. Then following that is a song with probably my favorite production on the project, we’re not introduced to any lyrics or vocals, just straight instrumental – and it’s fucking dope. Appropriately titled “Tuxedo Groove”. That one’s going on repeat.

Again, lyrics throughout the project center around seduction, love, love-making, and all that good shit.

Indeed, every song on this album works for what it is. “I Got U” is another hot joint. I’m running out of different ways I can say that this dope. Dopeity-dopeity-dope. How does that work?

It’s just a solid-ass release, with great soul, funk, R&B and love jams, with some good party tracks. This should have been released during Valentine’s week, probably would have given the album an entirely different feel. If you’re looking for…anything that I said throughout this review, go cop Tuxedo.

Mespilia globulus (Tuxedo Sea Urchin) from my reef tank. If you look closely, the blue stripes are exactly 3 parts to the spiny stripes 5 part. Golden rule. Wow nature.

I have about a million and a half hobbies, on top of working. Photography really helps me pull all of those things together, I absolutely love it.

Reef tanks really make me obsessive. Think about keeping such amazing creatures in your own home, seeing them thrive by trying to replicate an ocean environment, it's just amazing. Technology, research, and understanding of mother nature keep us on our toes, making these things possible.

I like to study the animals with my lenses, hopefully I can capture all their beauty from the comfort of my home. I'm fortunate to be able to keep these animals, as with a past of Spontaneous Pneumothorax, I can never scuba safely in my lifetime. Pneumothorax is the collapse of the lung. Any extra pressure is really dangerous for me, especially if it takes a long time for me to come back up to the surface for help.

My last Pneumothorax was a full collapse + half collapse, I was running on half a lung. It's weird feeling to say the least. Hurt like a mofo.

That said, I hope to learn more about these urchins and other reef animals. You'll probably see me post more creatures soon!
