This box turtle crossing the creek in Carrboro, N.C. was annoyed to see me.

This large female was wandering in a parking lot over 100 meters from the nearest water, perhaps searching for a good egg-laying spot. The photo was taken on May 23.

The Brazilian turtle was appearing in the small pond

My pet's name is " Turtly ". She's about a year old and grown big to about 4 inches in diameter

This girl was one of three that was crossing the road. She was the only survivor by the time John saw her, stopped, and brought her to the safety of the ponds at home. She either already had laid, or was ready to lay, her eggs. She moved very, very fast. John put her in Pond 3.

 

This is Sparky not too long after I got him.

Preferring the seemingly rapid waters of the rivers in missouri, this species is seldom seen on land. And may be rarer than previously thought. This one had actually just finished burying her eggs.

This beautiful big turtle was evidently looking to make a nest and crawling across my outdoor riding arena.

This specimen was captured in a hoop trap set at ecology camp. It must have been an old individual as it pretty much lacked any amount of middorsal keeling.

American Turtles (terrapins) became popular as pets because of a cartoon series in the UK some years ago . The owners did not realise that they grew to the size of a dinner plate and lived for forty years. Many ended up being put in ponds were they are an alien species competing with the local wildlife.

A turtle that came across while in Turkey in the yard of some random museum.

Maybe tuned the brightness a bit too low before uploading :?

I spent about 5 minutes trying to create a DRAMATIC DISPLAY with an inert painted turtle by shooting through the fountain spray. Mixed results.
