For a Peaceful Blue Monday!

The Turquoise Jay is a vibrant blue bird with the black mask and collar characteristic of many species of Cyanolyca jays. It is considered relatively common and seems more tolerant of human-disturbed habitats than some of its relatives, but many aspects of its natural history, and population size and trends, remain unknown. The Turquoise Jay is found in humid, montane evergreen forests and elfin forests on both sides of the Andes from Colombia to Peru, with a center of abundance in Ecuador. This jay forages for insects and other food items in the canopy or in patches of dense, relatively short vegetation, often in small groups and mixed flocks. After exploring the chilly trail around was so relaxing to sit on hot rocks by the lake

Lake Pukaki, Mackenzie District, Canterbury Region, South Island, New Zealand.

The water colour of the lake is a bright turquoise due to glacial flour, made from extremely fine rock particles that have come from the surrounding glaciers.

Planned to take sunrise at Moraine lake, but the parking lot was full and blocked around 6am, still very dark outside… headed to Lake Louise, luckily got the parking spot. Almost zero degree, waited for the sun to rise on top of the mountains and reflected on the lake… The sky was burning on top of Lake Louise, a hamlet in the Canadian Rockies, known for its turquoise, glacier-fed lake ringed by high peaks and overlooked by a stately chateau. So closed to the famous top…

Happy Macro Monday everyone.

Meltwater from the Emmons Glacier on Mount Rainier forms a brilliant turquoise lake. The Emmons Glacier is the largest glacier in the lower 48.

The San Francisco Bay Bridge is not as famous as the Golden Gate Bridge, nevertheless it is a very pretty structure.

Today I gave a "composition in the field" class to students of the Digital Photo Academy. We learned about ND (neutral density) filters in broad daylight. For this photo I stacked two ND8 filters, set the ISO to 100 and aperture to f22 to get an exposure time of 4 seconds. This smoothes out the waves nicely. The ND filters also change the colors a bit, e.g. they are not totally neutral. We get these beautiful turquoise tones because of it.

I processed a balanced HDR photo from a long exposure RAW image.

Also known as the Turquoise-fronted Amazon or Parrot, this species has been considered to be one of the most abundant of its genus. Unfortunately currently it is a nearly threatened species. Very heavily trapped for cagebird trade. This was a free and wild one photographed at Pantanal - Brazil.

Wishing everyone a peaceful week and good luck to the Brazilian soccer team!
