When I was turning the bottom of this bowl, it flew off the lathe, shot straight up, destroyed a fluorescent bulb, and shards of glass down rained down on me. Who says the lathe is boring?

A friend of mine gave me some apple wood years ago and I turned him a christmas ornament as a thank you gift. This piece was made from brazilian rosewood, tulipwood, and apple and then I did some ornamental turning which is the patterns you see on the body.
G528 rolls down into Talbot with 8 VPCX cement pots on #9157 Cement pot transfer to Mildura. This will be the last time this small transfer would happen as the Fruity [9102] had not been running. All this was prior to the Pacific National Boral contract ceasing in late December. - 14-12-2015

Still turning. A difficult shot to get sharp, as the aircraft is not moving sideways so I'm not panning, but there is still movement across the image which is shot at slow shutter speed to keep some motion on the rotors.
- The famous Turning Torso tower in Malmö is seen at sunset in the distance here. There is also a big swarm of birds in the foreground.

The vision of HSB Turning Torso is based on a sculpture called Twisting Torso. In 1999 HSB Malmö’s former Managing Director Johnny Örbäck saw the sculpture in a brochure which presented Santiago Calatrava in connection with his contribution to the architectural competition for the Öresund Bridge.
It was on this occasion that Johnny Örbäck got the idea to build HSB Turning Torso. Shortly thereafter he travelled to Zurich to meet with Santiago Calatrava and ask him to design a residential building based on the idea of a structure of twisting cubes.
HSB Turning Torso is an amazing combination of sculpture and building. It is also one of the few landmarks in the world which becomes part of everyday life with its ten floors of offices, 147 apartments and meeting facilities on the two top floors.
Santiago Calatrava
The architect behind HSB Turning Torso is Santiago Calatrava. The Spaniard is one of the most fascinating architects of our time and is responsible for a number of fascinating projects.
Calatrava is a trained sculptor, architect and engineer and is among other things responsible for projects such as the Olympic Sports Complex in Athens and the World Trade Center Transportation Hub which is being built in connection with Ground Zero. He has also created several bridges, railway stations and air traffic control towers.

I have found an inexpensive rotator that actually turns slowly enough for my taste. It appears very adjustable for this work, and has a long-lasting battery. I did take the liberty of cutting out much of the night time for this 1 1/2 day time lapse.
This is taken a one frame every 5 seconds, with a display rate of 90 frames per second, or an acceleration rate of 450 times normal speed.
