Vegetarian meal last night - spinach ravioli with tomato feta bake sauce with tumeric, loads of garlic and pea shoots tossed into the boiling ravioli at the last minute and roasted whole garlic on top! Oh my gawd it's goooooood!
poha is cooked with lightly frying mustard seeds, tumeric, chili powder, finely chopped onions and then moistened poha is added to the spicy mix and steamed for a few minutes. Jalebi is often eaten with poha.
Flattened rice is also a convenience food and very similar to instant mashed potatoes in uses and spirit.

LegoMonorailFan99 literally blew my mind with his outstanding work using turmeric to dye trans-clear LEGO elements trans-yellow. I did a few experiments of my own before I dye a very old (and expensive) part and thought I would share.
I used turmeric from the co-op supermarket in the UK. Be warned it stains EVERYTHING, so I used an old glass jar rather than ruin our kitcheware. I still have yellow fingers.
In each case I put the turmeric powder into the jar, poured on 200ml of water from a freshly boiled kettle, stirred and then dropped in the LEGO. After the timer rang I pulled the parts out and rinsed in cold water.
You can see basically the more turmeric you use and the longer you leave it the deeper the colour goes. If you do several pieces at once they come out exactly the same. In test d and f I used the leftover solution from the last test. It wasn\'t nearly as effective so either the heat is important or the staining agent is used up?
It is brighter than trans clear LEGO, but I don\'t plan to mix and match in my model.
a: Real trans-yellow LEGO
b: 2 tsp turmeric, 10 mins
c: 3 tsp turmeric, 10 mins
d: Used the leftover water from c, 10 mins.
e: 4 tsp turmeric, 15 mins
f: Used the leftover water from e, 1 hour
I couldn't wait until cucumber season!
This is:
a couple of English cucumbers
a red onion
1 cup each cider vinegar and white sugar
1/4 cup salt
some dill seed
some tumeric
some celery seed
some aleppo chili peppers
No heating, just mixing and storing in the fridge. Gosh, cucumbers and vinegar are good. Plus, I got to get out the trusty Frugal Gourmet mandoline, which is always fun!
All of this is absolutely inspired by minty's pickle madness.
There is lots and lots of Thai food and it seems, there is only one meal per day, which starts right after getting up and ends before going to bed. I am kind of happy, that I can get back to my 2-3 meals per day, now.
Anyways, Thai food is usually delicious, sometimes spicey, which I don't mind.
I have enjoyed to be back to this restaurant, which I know for probably 12 or 15 years now. There was a life and, which I fianally tipped with 500 Baht. I imagined, that they have discussed before going on stage, that nobody might listen anyways, so I have shown them, that I have paid attention to their work and skill. :-)
The dishes (left to right): Pad Pak (different vegetables), Tod Mun Pla (made from a slightly spicey fish dough, Gai Satee (grilled chicken in a coconut and tumeric marinade).
Really tasty, a bit of mither to make. The Coconut milk pancakes were tricky as they stuck to the griddle. The rest is easy. The mixture would be nice as a veggi pie filling too.

I saw a video on U Tube how to make these.
The lady peels and chops with a machete. She cooks on an open fire. That is skill. I toned the spices down a bit.

ʻEna (Southern Marquesas)
Taleʻa (Tuamotus)
ʻŌlena (Hawaiʻi)
Polynesians use the rhizomes mostly as traditional medicine or yellow dye.
ʻŌlena is one of 24 or 25 canoe plants that were brought by the early Polynesians to the Hawaiian Islands. Another canoe plant, ʻawapuhi or Shampoo ginger (Zingiber zerumbet), is related to ʻōlena.
ʻŌlena can be harvested at any time of the year. However, I generally like to harvest it when the leaves turn completely brown. I find it has a better and stronger taste at that time. When leaves are green the rhizomes seem more watery and less flavorful.
The health benefits are reducing inflammation and joint & muscle pain, and increasing cardiovascular, skin, brain cell function and mood balance.
Lingun with tumeric coming from the linga shrine for Lord Shiva at the Brihadeeswarar Temple, Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, India.
So delicious! Ingredients: okra, red onion, garlic, fresh ginger, banana pepper, tomato. Spices: tumeric, curry powder, salt, pepper and freshly squeezed lemon juice.
And that's the trick.
Tumeric.
Take a standard bag of tumeric, should be about 15 or 20 grams of it. Drop it into 2L of water, boil till it dissolves. Turn off the heat, stir a bit so the foam dissipates.
Dunk your trans-clear pieces carefully so no bubbles form, leave for 2-3 minutes, then stir. Repeat 3 times, take the pieces out, rinse with warm water and compare with original trans yellow piece. If the color is not strong enough, reheat the water to boiling and repeat entire process.
The small canopy on top is original lego trans-yellow, and larger two are dyed.
Greens don't work as well; center one is original, left was trans-blue (the one from spyrius line) and right was trans-light-blue.
Yellows though... to me - as good as new!
Shot this a while ago but been plundering the archives and quite liked how this turned out. Have no idea what half those spices are now so don't ask! They are still being found in random places in my studio though!

Dyed naturally in festive colors. Yellow onion skins provide the dark red, red cabbage produces blue and tumeric produces yellow.

Porridge mit Kokosmus, Kurkuma und Apfelmus - Porridge with Coconut Cream, Turmeric, Apple sauce and Honey
DSCN9933
I don’t follow normal breakfast patterns . Strangely to most taste - this is my cravings for breakfast this morning plus coffee :D
This looks massive but this is only a very small bowl of seafood .
There are no additives in this food or of which is heavily processed like ready made salad dressings or seafood sauces . Although the lettuce I used isn't organic , but if any chemical residues are present ( link to its farm production ) it could only be very minute even of neglible amount . My mindset does argue in effect by putting in the Tumeric and Parsley portion can offset the action of the radicals ingested in .
Mixed Seafood ,
lettuce ,sweet pepper ,
parsley ,sprinkled with tumeric
cumin and black pepper .
Tumeric and Parsley have potent anti-cancer properties .
I am kind of naughty as I knew I am allergic to prawns .But I love prawns .
So when I cheat by eating prawns ,I always have some antihistamine ready :)
Possibly by eating small doses of prawns more often will get my system to adapt to having prawns in my diet content and hopefully will reduce the extent of allergic reactions to nil . Similar to the idea of immunity ... but this is only an opinion and a wish .
With shots like this I often used my photo and shoot :D it's quick .
