The Keilaniemi metro station (in Swedish: Kägeluddens metro station) is one of the Länsimetro metro stations completed in 2017. The station is located in Keilaniemi, in Espoo, a municipality near Helsinki in Finland.

The metro station has been designed by the architectural firms ALA and Esa Piironen. Above the platform a work of art is installed by the artist couple Grönlund & Nisunen. The installation consists of tube lights which lights up the platform area.

Technical stuff

This is single hand-held shot take at 2000ISO, f8.0, 1/25, -2/3 at 16 mils. I didn’t use a tripod as that’s not allowed in the metro station.

Post-production in lightroom was fairly simple. It included, cropping the image to enhance the feeling of symmetry, balancing the lighting at the level of platform and of the ceiling. Further a lond the production ‘line’ I downgraded the shadows and black tones in the ceiling, so the tube lights stand out more. Furthermore, I highlighted the two benches in the foreground. Finally, I added some copyright signs (in PS, as it is still not possible to position a watermark anywhere you want like in PS – by simply adding text). The latter is, alas, there to stay due to the fact that my photos were frequently copied. So, don't bother commenting on that.

This one is for the composition in black and white. I think it would enlarge very well.

I remind people that this image was taken outdoors in full sunlight. No other lighting has been used.

Two electron tubes. The left one is a power triode introduced in 1932, this model is from RCA and from the fifties. It is approx. 21 cm high. The small one is also from RCA, first built in 1940, this one is from the sixties. Both are NOS, New Old Stock with their original packaging, and have never been used!

Tubes is the highest peak in Central Mecsek. The 611 meter high mountain is connected by the spine of the Dömör Gate to the Pécs slopes, continuing steep slopes to the east to the 535 m high Misina Mountain. The cone between the two mountains is the 577 meters high Kis-Tubes. These mountains are one of the richest areas of the Mecsek Mountains in plant associations.
