Conceived in 1947 and appearing three years later at Earls Court, the Triumph Roadster or TRX as it became known, caused quite a bit of controversy. The Walter Belgrove designed alloy body on a shortened Vanguard chassis and motor was too futuristic, slow and expensive to be seriously considered for production. Three examples were built, two of which survive. The third car was destroyed at Bouton-on-the-Water when one of the electro-hydraulic systems developed a fault, causing a fire; "...we couldn't put out the fire and that was the end of that one. I can't say I was sorry" said the driver.
