Often times my Bartles & Jaymes drinking binges don't end well. After the last one, I somehow concocted a plan to frame Douglas Bubble-Trousers for murder. I'm not sure why I did it, but I really think it may have been the 47 wine coolers that we had together. Either way, he was arrested, tried and (unfortunately) only found guilty of attempted homicide. I told him I'd visit him in prison, but as it turns out, none of that ever happened.

I just put him under a bucket and stuck a big ol rock on top and told him, (loudly, according to my wife) to think about what he had done. With the help of a few other woodland creatures, he managed to escape. This is him right before he gave me the finger.

Oh DBT, how I love you.

They say you can tell a lot about a man by his shoes. Could the same be said of his socks?

The theme for "Looking Close on Friday" for the 17th of March is "wearing socks". Over the last two years, I have been exploring a new avenue in my photographic creativity, that of portraiture photography. I used a somewhat illusive sitter for the “Smile on Saturday” theme of “nose” in September 2021 and for “Looking Close on Friday’s” theme of “dots and stripes” in October 2021, “lips” in November 2021, “feathers (in black and white)” in December 2021 and the “Smile on Saturday” themes “part of a human face” and “orange” both in November 2022. He has kindly returned for a seventh time, and this time he has drawn up his trousers (he’s such a good sport) to show us a piece of his wardrobe not often seen: his silk blend sheer socks and smart sock garters.

For many people, socks are a rather utilitarian part of their wardrobe – a necessity rather than a thing of beauty that one thinks about because you seldom see them, or much of them. Yet when my model showed up and lifted his trouser leg to reveal the socks he had chosen to wear for my photographic modelling request, he has shown that even if not seen often, they can still be a stylish article of clothing, even if only to please yourself.

Although this is far from my usual subject for my photography, I hope that you like my choice of this week’s theme, and that it makes you smile.

Garrulus glandarius - This fellow led me a merry dance through mud and trouser ripping undergrowth before settling and peeking out from it's refuge deep within the woods close to the picnic area. They are fond of acorns and bury them to ensure a regular supply. It is thought many oak trees owe their existence to a Jay’s amnesia.

I was born and raised in Hebden Bridge (for this is it)...Once home to 33 Mills...and known as 'Trouser Town'.

Everyone worked, including all our mums...because they had to. The textile industry vanished in about 10 years in the 60's, leaving a void. Education got me out, but for those left, houses were worth nothing and and the town was dying.

After it was 'discovered' by hippies, artists and intellectuals, largely from the cities, the town has gradually evolved into an arty and trendy place to live. Properties are expensive (by northern standards) and there is a thriving cultural scene. The streets are lined with coffee shops and independent traders. There are not many 'proper' shops, as witnessed by the demise of Holt's grocery, now empty. However, you can buy Falafel and Bhuddist prayer flags.

After a 7 mile walk around the many paths it was a pleasure to sit in town and watch the world over coffee and cake. Long may the place flourish and maybe the Grocery store will find a buyer.

This juvenile crab spider (less than 5mm in length) managed to balloon onto my trouser leg. With every gust of wind it raised its abdomen, as if contemplating a launch. Eventually, it released a strand of silk to the front and proceeded to climb along it, in the direction of my other trouser leg. (It doesn’t take much to keep me entertained!)
