Black and navy swing jacket, Forever 21. Black sweater, Ann Taylor Loft. Trouser jeans, Express. Yellow pumps, Victoria Spenser. Yellow brooch, Accessorize (or some other cheesy brand). Navy beaded bracelet, Bitten. Gold bracelet, from swap.
With all the hesitation people have over pairing black and navy, they often forget that we do it all the time when we wear a pair of dark jeans and a black top. Somehow, dark blue translates as a neutral when it’s denim. True, the blue of denim is usually multihued, but the overall effect is essentially navy. I think one of the easiest ways to start pairing black and navy is to start with a pair of dark jeans, add a black top, and then add one more dark blue item, as I’ve done here. (If you want to dicker over the color of dark denim being navy vs. indigo, take a look at the blue entry on Wikipedia. There, indigo looks rather purple. In fact Midnight blue and Sapphire look closest to the shade of the jeans I’m wearing. It’s all dark blue, though.)
I ordered this jacket after seeing it in a reader submitted outfit on The Fashion Police. From the photo, the brooch closure seemed to be some sort of fabulous, vintage-esque piece. I was horrified to open the package and find a Holly Hobby-esque brooch instead. It is COVERED IN BUTTONS. Except that it isn’t really covered in buttons…the coverage is so sparse that the cheap black fabric of the brooch’s base is exposed. Obviously, ratty button chic is not my thing so I began hunting for a replacement. Ideally, I would have liked something in black or clear stones, but after a few weeks of searching, settled for this yellow “jeweled” brooch for $5 at the Burlington Coat Factory. I think it’s quite an improvement over the button piece!
My trouser belt used on my Airforce uniform from 1970 to 1981. Strangely enough it still fits me in 2025!

Many peeps out there may (unfortunately) be familiar with this pump...
Its a manual infusion chemo pump. Every two weeks my Mum goes for her chemo and comes home with this. It is fitted to her hickman line that administers the chemo through her body for two more days after her initial 'in-patient' chemo.
Last week i took time out to rest after having minor surgery and decided to kill time creating some extra socks for my Mums nifty pink pump. She only gets one (very boring white cotton!) sock with her first pump and over time it gets pretty grubby and tatty.
Myself and my SIL decided to sit and make her some new jazzy ones out of scraps of wool.
We both got carried away since the pattern is soooo easy and have been donating them to our local oncology unit... Resources are sooo crappy there and not all patients are given a sock to carry the pump in due to short supplys. Many peeps tuck the pump into their bra (assuming they are female!) or trouser bottoms. But its just not that convenient to carry them around like that... so this, my Mum found to be a godsend!
Please feel free to distribute the pattern (or modify depending on your pump!) and share with other friends or family members that may find this pattern useful.
Better still... if you find yourself sitting in on an eve with nothing to do... knit up a few and donate to your local oncology unit... Im sure most will be grateful!
Chemo Pump Sock Pattern
using size 3 (US) or 10mm (UK) knitting needles and any DK wool.
cast on 44 st
row 1 and 2... knit 1 purl 1 to end
row 3.... *purl 2, yon, purl 2 tog*, repeat * to end (this forms the holes for the ribbon thread)
now starting with a knit row continue in stocking st until work measures 5½ changing yarn colour about an inch or so down from the top if you so desire!
cast off on a knit row and stitch along the bottom and side seam to form the sock.
Thread a length of ribbon through the ribbon holes along the top of the sock, knot to form neck loop...

In England bus shelters belong to the national fund of statutary comic objects ...along with British Railways sandwiches, effeminate hairdressers, schoolboys' trouser pockets, seaside landladies, school bicycle sheds and vindaloo curries. I think bus shelters feature on this inventory because, as places affording rudimentary privacy and protection from the elements, they are associated in the national psyche with early incompetent sexual experience. Another reason, of course, is their utilitarian ugliness.
But when you consider a modern bus shelter ...a framework of steel tubes and a few sheets of plate galass (mainly provided as a site for advertising), with a narrow ledge upon which the waiting traveller may lodge his weary hindquarters... the glazed and enclosed concrete shelter in this photograph looks almost stylish. It has the character of a small building, whereas a modern shelter is just a glorified wind-break. The authorities often provided a slightly better-appointed type of shelter at busy bus stops. I always associate them with that greenish dimpled opaque glass with wire mesh running through it (whatever happened to that stuff?) but this shelter retains a complete, intact, unvandalised set of windows with clear glazing. Neither is there any grafitti or "street art". Living in a rural area remote from metropolitan influences has advantages. I have even noticed ...and I hesitate to publicise the fact... that many churches are left unlocked hereabouts, as they were everywhere when I was young.

DF-A added some very ...interesting... gifts with my boy. I think they may be standard issue but I'm not sure. However... why? What? It's very nicely detailed, I'll give it that, but... well, maybe someone saw Hell Comes to Frog Town and the dance of the Nine Snakes inspired them..? Again, not sure, but certainly was a surprise!

I have taken these photos in order to use them for 3D modeling. I like mapping images onto surfaces, and putting decals onto them. These photos are raw JPEGs which haven't undergone any treatment at all - no reduction, no re-sizing, no auto contrast or auto levels or anything. Please feel free to grab anything you like and use it for your projects. Some may require cropping and sharpening, colour calibration, etc., but you surely know all that. I've been waiting for these trousers for what seems like months. Years maybe. My whole life, well that goes without saying. These are trouser no. 2 from the oh so amazing Trouser Sewalong hosted over on my blog.
