Dacron Trousers Girl Tiger Rug Trouser Advertisement Bad Ad

"Though she was a tiger lady, our hero didn't have to fire a shot to floor her. After one looks at his Mr Leggs slacks, she was ready to have him walk all over her."

Being tall means trouser suits look fantastic and really enjoyed wearing it. Empowering and stylish at the same time.

I hadn't spotted this image previously, but at first glance I then thought it was in the same series as the shots of John and a friend - e.g. www.flickr.com/photos/whatsthatpicture/6368412197/in/phot...

But it is dated two months earlier, and John's moustache is certainly much shorter here. It definitely looks like the same sort of location though.

I'm intrigued that he appears to be wearing cycling trouser clips.

Sunday evening in a trouser suit

Recently my washing machine broke down so I had to use the local laundrette to wash my clothes. Never having used one before I wasn’t really sure what to expect but I'm certainly sure that what I did witness was not what you would call the norm.

When I walked in a couldn’t see a soul until I walked around the first bank of machines, to my surprise I caught this lady sitting on a washing machine writhing about, legs akimbo, whimpering to herself. My first thought was this was some reenactment of the famous scene from ‘When Harry met Sally’ but as I looked closer I could see the tail of some small rodent sticking out the bottom of her trouser leg. To say I was shocked would be an understatement, I dropped my washing and ran as fast as my legs could take me from the place and left her to deal with the situation herself. Now I know it's not the most chivalrous response one could have but I just felt the fact that I was wearing shorts was enough of a reason to high tail it out of there in case it came at me with its pointed snout, small rounded ears and pink scaly tail. I certainly wasn’t going to be caught in this little fellas well thought out trap...

Cheers

Before and after images of children clothed by the Police Aided Clothing Association in 1910.

Officers and staff across Greater Manchester Police raise many thousands of pounds for charity each year. A huge range of sponsored challenges, fund raising events, collections and raffles bring in much needed funds for local, regional and national charities. In 2011, volunteers raise £64,000 for the charity Retrak alone. However, the archives of the Force’s Museum tell many stories of the good deeds of police officers past. Here is just one example of this great tradition.

In the late 19th century, long before modern welfare provision, police officers themselves organised a number of schemes to provide food and clothing to the poorest in society. Many forces set up “clog funds” and the Manchester Police created the Police Aided Clothing Association. The Association distributed clothing, boots and clogs to needy children. The public donated unwanted clothes and footwear to police stations and some items were also purchased new from suppliers.

The work was carried out in the following way – officers on their beats would observe children who were ill dressed or badly shod and a full report of each case would be provided to the Association. The children would then be supplied with suitable clothing and footwear at Albert Street Police Station (the site is now a multistorey car park, off Deansgate in the City Centre).

All the goods supplied were clearly stamped “Police Aided Clothing Association”, and pawnbrokers were warned that they must never accept these marked articles, thus ensuring that the children would at least retain one set of decent clothes.

The running costs of the Association were largely paid for by the officers themselves, with charitable donations making up the remainder. The scheme was still going strong in the mid 1920s, and was probably wound up only after the creation of the welfare state in 1945.

DF-A added some very ...interesting... gifts with my boy. I think they may be standard issue but I'm not sure. However... why? What? It's very nicely detailed, I'll give it that, but... well, maybe someone saw Hell Comes to Frog Town and the dance of the Nine Snakes inspired them..? Again, not sure, but certainly was a surprise!

Trying a delightful venue for afternoon tea.

Another from last nights hotel featuring the amazing Corby 5000 trouser press. I'm sure you'll all agree this was bar far the best series and the only one fitting a hotel of this calibre!

Thought my LTS satin trouser suit needed wearing and loved wear it.

I wear men's pyjamas. I gave up on soppy womens brushed cotton jim jams years ago. You would put on a brand new pair and they were all baggy and cosy and fleecy. After one wash they had shrunk in every direction about 6 inches and made me feel like the incredible hulk. As for nighties, well i never understood the point of wearing something so bilious and easy to rumple up. Go to sleep nightie neatly arranged. Wake up, nightie is round neck strangling you, leaving a bum as cold as marble to the touch.

Skirts and dresses get put one side for a few days as winter bits. Trousers definitely the way to go.

Another photo of my berry/burgundy trouser suit from before Christmas xx ❤️❤️

A real unknown French four-seat tourer aircraft which was built in 1937. Unfortunately this lovely trousered aircraft was destroyed at Saint-Cyr during a test flight.

After Kees Korts research and with thanks to his expertise:

Bimoteur Lagrevol-Porte

This twin-engine monoplane made its first appearance in the French news in the issue of Les Ailes for 30 March 1939. Besides two pictures of the machine the heading of the article identifies it as the Lagrevol-Porte bimoteur.

The article details the men as Mr. Lagrevol, a specialist engineer and Mr. Eugêne Porte, a notary from Djidjelli (today Jijel in Algeria). Mr. Porte is described as an experienced user who had totalled 450 flight hours with diverse machines.

Another source is the 1992 study about light aviation in Algeria 1909-1939. It is also describes the machine identified here shortly as the bimoteur Porte. First tests were started in the beginning of 1939 on the field at Saint-Cyr (near Versailles) and were very encouraging. It had great promise but the war arrived halting further tests and development completely.

Several questions remain open:

what was the connection to S.E.T.C.A.

who actually financed the building

which firm / company actually built the design
