1. Red foxes would be great triathletes.
Red foxes can run up to 31 mph, jump over 6 ft high fences, and they can even swim.
2. Their tail is over half its body length.
3. Red foxes’ forepaws have five toes, while their hind feet only have four! (And they don’t have dewclaws either.)
4. Females are actually called vixens.
Meanwhile, males are called dog foxes, and young foxes are called cubs, pups, or kits.
5. When afraid, red foxes grin.
It is a sign of submission, along with arching their backs and bringing themselves lower to the ground while laying their ears back.
A triathlon was in progress when I was out walking on the Lake Siskiyou Trail. I didn't think I would see any wildlife, what with the loudspeaker and ungainly splashing human swimmers. Fortunately there were a couple of these gals out and about who have the swimming down far better than any human, and of course are laughing at us earthbound humans when they soar into the sky. She's also an expert diver and fisher woman, so maybe she's actually a quatroathlete! Common Merganser
Penticton hosts a huge triathlon every summer with 2,500+ triathletes and over 4,000 volunteers. Every time I watch I fantasize about becoming an Ironwoman. And then I think about all the things I would have to eliminate from my life, like flickr, like Nacho flavoured Doritos and all my spare time.
In this shot I was mostly interested in the pavement grid and the wheels and had a vague idea I wanted to include the guy in the background with the leg injury and the cyclist with tensor band.
It wasn't until I got the shot on my computer that I realized the 'specialized' nature of the tensor band. Once again I am inspired to be an Ironwoman. The fantasy should subside in a week or so. They usually do.
Note: My Triathlete guide says this is Lana Spreeman of Calgary. A quick Google reveals that Lana holds the record for the greatest number of Paralympic Winter Games medals won by a Canadian athlete (skiing).
In a strange twist I think I worked with Lana in Banff in the late '70's when she was a Cat driver and I was the morning breakfast cook at Sunshine Village.

My sister-in-law, Laura, has been living with us in the UK since the start of the lockdown. As a professional triathlete trying to train every day, she's having to make do with putting her bike on a trainer in our garage but she's longing to get out and about properly when the restrictions are over. Even an upgrade from our dumping ground of a garage to this tidy loft would be welcome!

UPLACE, a fine corportate client, is going to sponsor triathlete Bruno 'Bruce' Clerbout so he can completely focus on his sports carreer as a professional athlete. They asked me to do some promo shots.
TECHNICAL INFO
The biggest difficulty for this shoot was that it was near freezing and extremely windy. To get some interesting light on this grey day, we had to light every shot with flashes. We also had to work extremely fast to avoid Bruno getting ill.
Bruno is lit by 2 Vivitar 285HV's on 1/2 power on each side, slightly behind him. Another Vivitar was set to camera right in a small softbox to act as fill. It was so windy that every flash had to be held by an assistant.
This is my favorite picture of the series. Probably because it looks exactly as I had in in my mind. Originally I wanted to create the motion blur of the background by shooting out of the trunk of a car (and freeze the subject with flash). But the cold gave us so little time to shoot that we had to shoot it statically and add the blur later in post.

Sharon is an excellent triathlete who switched recently from a stock Trek to a custom Guru Crono. This bike has a full Shimano Dura Ace group with Zipp wheels. Note the Nokon cables. What you can see is the cables are routed so they stay out of the airstream and the inner liner is continuous, so cables can be replaced without removing the cranks and bottom bracket. I
