The Golden Triangle (Burmese: Shwe-Tri gan; Chinese: 金三角; pinyin: jīn sān jiǎo; Thai: สามเหลี่ยมทองคำ; Vietnamese: Tam giác Vàng) is one of Asia's two main illicit opium-producing areas. It is an area of around 950,000 km2 that overlaps the mountains of four countries of Southeast Asia: Myanmar (Burma), Vietnam, Laos, and Thailand. Along with Afghanistan in the Golden Crescent and Pakistan, it has been one of the most extensive opium-producing areas of Asia and of the world since the 1920s. Most of the world's heroin came from the Golden Triangle until the early 21st century when Afghanistan became the world's largest producer.[1]

The Golden Triangle also designates the confluence of the Ruak River and the Mekong river, since the term has been appropriated by the Thai tourist industry to describe the nearby junction of Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar.

Having stated clearly that I don't like the Hallmark aspects of Valentine's Day I couldn't resist taking a picture of these petal-strewn cakes in a local bakery this morning (and buying one to share with Little Globalnomad, Mr G gets a chocolate soufflé 'cos he's worth it, haha), so herewith a tray of love triangles for the Triangles theme :-). Tenuous, I know, but a heart is nearly a triangle and since it's Valentine's Day I may as well be as cheesy as possible (literally, as the dough these are made from includes Quark, a creamy, German soft cheese).

PS Any Mac users out there, could you tell me what key strokes do I use to create a heart shape?

Part of the Organic Modular Structures series, this pendant is the same form as the grey felt object I made, but much smaller. The triangular units are riveted together to form a strong rigid structure, which when worn spins on the curved wire segment of the chain. This series was originally inspired by the segments and symmetry seen in the prints by Ernst Haeckel. With this pendant I have aimed to bring together the modular styles seen in furniture and interior design, with the modular and segmented structures found in nature.

Folded during a journey to Roma in october 2005, like prototype 1 and a draft for Trastevere.

At that time I got obsessed by cosmatesque tilings I've seen in Roma and completely forgot these prototypes.

Funny to see them again !

Motif of the day for Monday 20th August 2012 from Beyond The Square Crochet Motifs by Edie Eckman

Trying for a more geometric shape the triangles were scribbled onto cloth and then doodled with thread.
