After bringing a sizeable interchange train to the Richmond Pacific, Union Pacific's local heads back to Oakland light engine. RP doesn't run on Weekends, but that doesn't stop UP from running a local both days to bury them in cars come monday morning.
The treework is because UP has recently decided to reactive the Bayside Lead and that has meant chopping down a ton of trees in Berkeley's Aquatic Park, to be replaced at some point with "more native" trees. Either way, it opens up a new local spot, at least for awhile.
He was higher than he appears here. It is fascinating to see how they use the ropes for themselves and the saws. The cherry picker couldn't get into the back yard so he did it the old fashioned way. He is 65 years old and in poor health. It was a warm beautiful day today on Lincoln's birthday.
