This is a black-tailed prairie dog. Prairie dogs can communicate the species of intruder (human, coyote, badger, raptor) as well as provide detailed information describing the individual characteristics of that intruder. They take note if you have been eating a little more than you should or if the same coyote that visited yesterday is on the prowl again today. Amazing to learn that these communal creatures have such a sophisticated means of communication. Aspects of their language and culture has been recently decoded. Check out the link below for the details - the article also includes a sonogram, the tool that scientists used to unlock prairie dog "speak". Prairie dogs are endangered animals here and throughout the North American continent. This black-tailed prairie dog lives on the Larson Dogtown in Grasslands National Park.

This Peregine spent a great deal of time preening itself just after it ate a mid morning snack. It must have had its fill because shortly after this hsot, it proceeded to close its eyes and just sit there silently as if sleeping.
01 – O.P.I – Catch Me In Your Net: Amor à primeira vista, um dos esmaltes mais lindos que eu tenho.
02 – China Glaze – Zombie Zest: Meu China favorito, verde maravilhoso.
07 – O.P.I – Who The Shrek Are You?: Adoro cores diferentes e este verde amarelado é um dos meus favoritos.
08 – Revlon – Cherries In The Snow: O tom mais lindo de rosa que eu já vi.
09 – China Glaze – Tree Hugger: Verdinho claro e cintilante, outro amor à primeira vista.
10 – O.P.I – Jade Is The New Black: Verde puro e na medida certa, nem muito claro nem muito escuro.
11 – China Glaze – For Audrey: Meu azul clarinho predileto.

These were hanging around in the bushes around the campsite. At night, swarms of bats would come out to eat the little guys. Sunset State Beach Campground, Watsonville, CA, July 2008.
Not only was I excited to see peanut butter in Europe (even if it IS the processed kind), I was excited to see it bear the name of my dog from when I was little.

I thought this one was really cool.
It comes out really cool if you use it for layers too :]
Feel free to use this as you please.

Today is the final day to enter the Best Original Textures Contest in my group Texturizers Anonymous!
Every morning this Gila Woodpecker would arrive at our campsite in search of breakfast.
Intriguing to watch and comical at times.
This pose reminds me of an old joke my Dad would tell which started with:
"Whats da name of dat bird what bash his head against da tree??"
Our funky little house was built in 1887, over on the high spot on the north side of the street. In 1917 it was moved to the south side of the street, to clear the high spot for a much more elegant house. We were told by the real estate folks that Jesse Fell, just before he died, had our house built for his two spinster daughters to live in. Old Jesse was a surveyor and lawyer who likely touched nearly all of our town in it's early days.
Fell helped found the Unitarian church here, where Rustie and I were married. I like to rub the nose of his bust for good luck after entering the church. Fell was a very lucky man.
Yeah, our house was built in 1887. It's been through hell and it certainly is no longer in "historical" condition. Hot in summer (no A/C), cold in winter, the basement leaks, and the whole house leans toward the back yard. We love it!
Graham Hill uses one of the 2 rooms (+kitchen and small bathroom) as his office. Natural light coming from a generous window facing an old tree makes the place pleasant.
I made this picture just for fun when I was working on the album cover of Necrology
When we understand that man is the only animal who must create meaning, who must open a wedge into neutral nature, we already understand the essence of love. Love is the problem of an animal who must find life, create a dialogue with nature in order to experience his own being.

after all of my urban exploring yesterday, i just had to get back to good ol' nature, which is what i REALLY love. and so perfect, since it was Earth Day.
i know i look like a goof in this pic, but it pretty much sums up my day. i hung out at HF estate for most of the day, got a sunburn and fell asleep next to the falls on the riverbank. A perfect Earth Day for sure....and then i went and recyled my bottles and cans too. lol.
oh, and this is for a group "look mom, i'm a tree hugger!" or something like that . love it!!
