I was busy with a couple of close-up shots. With by back to the sun. while waiting for the sun to hit the scene I was planning to shoot I turned around and saw this amazing view in front of me.

normally I curse the "dapple" in a forest because it creates too much contrast for the camera. this time I just exposed for the leaves, let the trunks go dark, and let a few highlights blow out just slightly. the result is that for once this really does sort of *feel* like how it appeared. love that light.

I guess farmers plant these rows of trees to act as a windbreak?

I would say that the trees in these photos are either Gimlets (Eucalyptus Salubris), Salmon Gums (Eucalyptus Salmonophloia), Red Morrel (Eucalyptus Longicornis) or a mixture of them. Considering the dark-colored bark reaching almost to the top of the branches, these are probably Red Morrel.

The jacaranda trees around the shopping centre where the festival was held were actually not heavily in bloom. However, most of the surrounding residential streets had nice jacaranda canopies.
