Photograph taken at 13:23pm on Thursday December 26th 2013 off Knee Hill A2041 and New Road in the grounds of Lesnes Abey Wood in Bexleyheath, Kent, England.
Anyone who knows me knows that I have a passion for forests and trees, and I love to shoot with ultra wide angle lenses to capture shots of an all round canopy. There is something very calming and soothing I find when walking alone amongst trees, my favourites being the giant Douglas firs when I am on the Weste coast of British Columbia. I guess there is more than a little of the 'tree hugger' within me.

From Wikipedia: Crown shyness (also canopy disengagement, canopy shyness or intercrown spacing) is a phenomenon observed in some tree species, in which the crowns of fully stocked trees do not touch each other, forming a canopy with channel-like gaps.

After viewing and taking in all those Hindu cremations at Pashupatinath temple the previous day (see previous pictures earlier in this album), the following day started on a much happier note, thank goodness. Here is a monkey on a tree on the steps to the Syamwanbhunath stupa in Kathmandu, Nepal. You can ascend by a very long flight of steep steps, but thank goodness there is an easier alternative with comparatively fewer steps, which is the route I decided to take. The Swayambhunath complex consists of a stupa, a variety of shrines and temples, some dating back to the Licchavi period and a Tibetan monastery, museum and library which are more recent additions. The stupa has Buddha's eyes and eyebrows painted on it-we will see that as we go along. (see subsequent pictures later in this album). Between them, the number one (in Devanagari script) is painted in the fashion of a nose. There are also shops, restaurants and hostels atop the hill in the Swayambhunath temple complex. The site has two access points: a long staircase leading directly to the main platform of the temple, which is from the top of the hill to the east; and a car road around the hill from the south leading to the south-west entrance- that's the easier route I just mentioned. The first sight on reaching the top of the stairway is the Vajra (a thunderbolt of mythical weapon in both Hinduism and Buddhism). (Kathmandu, Nepal, Oct/ Nov 2019)
City sidewalk with trees providing a canopy. Unexpectedly a woman appears which adds focus to my view.
We had a few minutes to kill before our speaker about the Cedar Rapids flood of 2008 so we stopped at some state park. It overlooked the Cedar River and was rather restful under the tree canopy.
Week #26 theme for the 52.5 of 2010 group is nature, and this is about all the nature I could imagine!

World Pinhole Photograph Day - 2021 April 25. Shot with a Canon 6D DSLR and a DIY body cap with a pinhole. I think the hole was a bit too small and the diffraction was preventing good focus. I've ordered a commercial pinhole with a precision sized hole, so may try again in the near future.
