If you like taking photos of trees you should think about joining in! :)

Trees are poems that earth writes upon the sky, we fell them down and turn them into paper, that we may record our emptiness.

Caddo Lake is a magical place. I return with something different every time I go.

Alyce Bender and I had another excellent workshop and we're already filling next year's event. Contact either me or Bender if you'd like to be included next season.

Reflections of trees in the water at Beaver Creek Reservoir in Albemarle County, Virginia. This is a crop from a horizontal shot.

The limbs of the cedar were trimmed back and the resin weeps from the cut. These were low sucker limbs about 1-1/4 inch diameter.

I've taken many pictures of this tree - the last tree in Lyme Park on the way up to Lyme Cage - but not for some time. This was taken on Monday, a rather cold, frosty but bright day and before the snow arrived. It looks like someone has lost a kite, tangled up in the branches of the tree.

Day 1. The first day.

Another Tree Sparrow high up on a twig/plant stem.

Smaller than a House Sparrow and more active, with its tail often cocked. It has a chestnut brown head and nape (rather than grey) and white cheeks and collar with a contrasting black cheek spot.

The UK Tree Sparrow population has suffered a severe decline, estimated at 93 per cent between 1970 and 2008.

My favorite tree at Memorial Lake State Park, Annville, PA

In the hullabaloo of the holidays I forgot to post this year's Christmas Tree. It has become an annual tradition for me to go up to the mountain (one of them at least) every December, find a suitable tree, dress it up in colorful LED lights, turn it into a bright, colorful tree in a dark snowy forest, make some photos, pack all the lights up, and go home. It has been a fun tradition, and every year has led me to a different patch of forest. This year we found a tree nestled along the old Barlow Road near the Barlow Road Snow Park. I like it because no trees are harmed in the making of this Christmas Tree, and there is something a bit magical in both the solitude of the location and the fleeting nature of the circumstances. It's kind of fun to dress up a wild tree and make these photos and that is a good cornerstone for a tradition.

After a couple days and nights of fresh snow in Yosemite Valley, a stand of trees basks in the warmth of the morning Sun. This is a stand of trees I have photographed a few times in different seasons without realizing that I had recreated virtually the same composition. I think the winter view is my favorite though, with the snow stuck to the side of the trunks and the warm brown hues of leaves still clinging to branches providing some color in an otherwise monochromatic world.
