35/52: Happy Little Tree
Probably my new favorite place to photograph in San Diego, San Dieguito River Park (Lake Hodges) provides an awesome opportunity to capture serene images. I am anything but a morning person, however moments like this make the 4:30am alarms completely worth it.
I thought that I'd give you a glimpse of how this season started in the spring and gathered momentum to fuel this year's extended fall. This is before I edit more shots from autumn.
I shot this tree every time it seemed to pop... and pop it did that day at wide angle, making it appear that the powerful sky radiated from the cottonwood. The incoming turbulence, that I brought out, certainly sets the tree off nicely. I am out here on the south bank of the second pond at Golden Ponds, the Longmont, Boulder County greenbelt and rec area and fortunately, the turn is only a half-dozen blocks down Hover St. I wanted to look for possible locations even though the sky has been the pits lately. I wandered the green space and took some detail shots that were available, This young (relatively) cottonwood is guarding the south bank of the pond and had sunk its roots into the water table in the valley. This lighting created a bold statement I could not pass up. I like the way the sunlight plays upon the leaves so that they punch their way into awareness. Autumn is finally toast after the summer of the Koch fossil foolers. I love shooting bold scenes with this camera and lens. Some of the shots were slow enough to be a bit dicey that day.
This autumn was a welcome relief from the oppressive summer although were are dry enough to worry about fires that might yet spark.
Not a dead tree, just leafless at the moment....and decorated with Sparrow Weaver nests.
Have a Tree-mendous Tuesday, everyone!
This is probably the last autumn roll before snow and ice. Shot with the Pentax 6x7 on Kodak New Portra 400. 45mm lens probably at f5.6.

At my mum's house. Christmas Day 2008.
This was taken when I first arrived in the morning. It's a bit dark as it was a dull day, but I wanted to take at least one photo of her beautiful tree. :)
A dead tree covered in ivy at the centre of a ploughed field.
It took several attempts to shoot the tree from this angle due to the M4 motorway being directly in the frame - too many white vans and lorries!!
With apologies to John Darnielle (aka The Mountain Goats).
Or... more to the point... in tribute to him.
We saw him live in Chicago a few years ago and... I was floored. Absolutely floored. Or fielded, I suppose, since it was an outdoor show. He is such a brilliant guy... and his songs... well... if you haven't heard any, please do Google him. He has a fascinating past (including living on the grounds of a mental institution, where he did a lot of songwriting).
I often find myself singing his "Island Garden Song" when I'm out in my garden (which is, like me and my life, living and happening on an island). Best line? "And my garden will grow sooooo high/That I will be completely hidden."
Sounds like paradise to me.

More from my ride the other day.
I found a tree I hadn't photographed before :-)
Texture thanks to Cliffordsax.
Bonnie always getting her mug in a shot and I am certain Bella is in there somewhere as well.

Glanteenassig is an outdoor enthusiasts dreamland with over 450 hectares of woodland, mountain, lake and peatland to explore. Nestled in a sheltered valley among the Slieve Mish mountains, the landscape is imposing and awesome . To reach it the visitor must step off the beaten track, travel up the valley and feel the remoteness of the mountains. Behind the trees the area abounds with streams, lakes, waterfalls and dramatic cliffs which characterise this untamed landscape. At certain points, views of Brandon & Tralee Bay and the Maharees can be enjoyed. There are a selection of walks and picnic areas dotted around the site to be enjoyed.
Our crabapple tree blooms every year around my birthday. We don't trim it. It's huge.

I captured this on the Luis Muñóz Rivera National Park, here on San Juan, PR. My wife reaching for a sleeve of a tree.
Well the holidays are past and we're back home in the flatlands. It's chilly and windy and seems even colder here than up in the mounains and the snow.
While the hygenist scratched away at my teeth, I watched through the window, as the wind blew this tree around in the afternoon sunlight. Like a Christmas tree, when it's all over, losing it's decorations, one by one.
i forget the name of these to be honest but i liked them very much they were on a tall tree and moved a lot in the breeze so it was a bit difficult to get a shot but i liked them so much i said i would give it a go . they reminded me of fire and i really love fire so much
i am staying with summer for a while yet weather has turned cold here but no autumn colours yet . maybe it will only be cold for a day or so heres hoping lol
wishing you all a lovely evening
