We were fascinated by these road signs appearing on the verges at certain places on the road from Loch Lomond to Oban. On our return journey I was able to get a couple of quick snaps.
They are called Perceptual Rider Information for Maximising Expertise and Enjoyment (PRIMEs), and are accompanied by markings on the road soon after the signage.
See this report for details of their success.

Treasure Hunt 70: Verge
This is the newer one. The treasures in this one are...
An Indian head penny, regular dime, quarter, nickle, key, 1944 walking liberty half dollar, plastic dime store ring, cup hook , old clip on earring, and a working watch (we'll see how long it lasts! It was a cheapo that kept having the band come off so... recycle! :)
I didn't really know what pantomime was so I googled it and this is what came up. Hope it is true because I don't know if this is what was for the treasure hunt
Back at the flea market again!!! Last Sunday the weather was questionable (it looked as though it was going to rain). This weekend it was decent outside, and luckily I was feeling well enough to go. I'm not sure if I had an allergy attack or some sort of cold...but I felt awful Friday and Saturday. Anyways, as soon as we walked into the flea market, I spotted a large container tipped on its side. This seller is always set up in the same spot by the entrance. But I've never seen him with Barbies. I immediately was intrigued, because I could tell they were 90s dolls. Based on where they were placed, haphazardly spilling onto the ground, I had a hunch they'd be cheap. I had noted the 1994 Holiday Dreams Barbie from a distance. While digging through the contents of the container, I discovered 1995 Happy Holidays Barbie. On opening weekend this year, we scored a used 1994 gal! What luck!!! We are so close to having all the original Happy Holidays gals (the line name was changed in 1999 because of Millennium Princess). The seller said the dolls were $10 each, but he'd let us have three dolls for $20. What a bargain...that's less than $7 each! So of course we had to jump on it. Naturally I picked Holiday Dreams and Happy Holidays. As for the third gal, my sister and I both voted for her since her box was so damaged. I already really liked her picnic style outfit, and her face reminded me of my childhood 1995 My First Tea Party doll. But the horrendously disgusting condition of her box sealed the deal. There were a lot of other dolls this Sunday, but we didn't find anything else that was cheap enough to get. I did forget to include a $1 body donor (a Teresa with butchered hair to her scalp).

Despite the influx of sellers and the better weather, the second week of flea market season actually produced less items of interest. Sometimes you find the best things on the days when the weather is gross. Other times, the improved outdoor conditions can lead to a successful treasure hunting trip. I honestly thought we might go home empty handed. There were more booths to look at on Sunday, compared to the opening weekend. But we actually saw LESS dolls! That being said, we only purchased two beauties the first weekend (since the others were overpriced). Weird how that worked out.
I noticed a seller pulling some Barbies out of a reusable tote, and setting them out on his table. I spotted two Stacie dolls from the 2010s, whom I knew would interest my sister. We waited until he finished, and then casually strolled over to the booth. You never want to seem over eager, otherwise the seller might ask for more money. Anyways, there were still some items in the tote bag on the ground. It included a fabulous grocery store set and a very interesting looking desk, among a few other bits and bobs. The dolls themselves were all pretty scraggly, even though they were from more recent years. When Colleen inquired about the price of the two Stacie dolls in hand, the seller stated that he wanted to sell all of the Barbies together, for $15. A lot of times men will be more willing to unload all their dollies together in a bundle. I surveyed the contents one more time, and figured it was worth the price. Normally I'd want a bit more stuff for $15, but we weren't going to the flea market the following Sunday. Instead we would spend the entire day helping out at a friend's bridal shower.
It turned out that two of the dolls in the tote weren't salvageable. One of the Stacies and one of the Barbies had horrendous haircuts. The front of their tresses had been hacked down to their scalps (their messy state distracted from this initially). Since dolls from this time frame are generic, and Colleen has literally NO spare clothes for newer Stacies, we opted to use them as body donors. Sometimes casualties are needed to provide for dolls in nice condition that have body issues. I refuse to utilize "healthy" dolls for parts no matter how many duplicates I have of them (as it is, I feel bad whenever I have to donor somebody). I was especially excited about the three Chelsea dolls in this bundle, which we dubbed the "Grocery Gals Lot." I figured the grocery store playset was the most memorable thing from the lot, and what I initially noticed. Anyways, I've been very keen on building a Chelsea collection as of late. But I rarely see the dolls secondhand for some reason (weird, considering how prevalent they are in stores, and how well they must sell if Mattel is cranking them out in such a volume).

Colleen and I anxiously awaited opening day at our local flea market all of last week. We hoped that the weather would be decent enough to go, since the flea market is set up outdoors. Luckily for us, Sunday turned out to be a beautiful day (although the clouds did come and go). The first half of the flea market yielded nothing worth buying. I was starting to think that we were going to go home empty handed, or perhaps with one or two dolls if we were lucky. But we ended up striking gold as you can see. There have been several years since we got into collecting where we were fortunate enough to score bins of dolls. There was the "60 Doll Bin" of 2013, the "Ken Suitcase Bin" of 2016, and this year we got the "Princess and the Pauper Bin!" I'm just realizing a pattern...we get bins every three years (hoping for one in 2022 ha ha). Not all of these dolls in the photo were from the lot though, but I'll explain about them later.
I spotted a few doll heads hanging out of a container on our way up one of the hills at the flea market. At first, it looked like a porcelain type doll, or something else that was not of any interest. But my dolly senses tingled, so I made my way over to the back of the booth where a container was sitting. Colleen noticed I had seen something, so she backtracked to see what was up. As I neared the container I found the glorious African American Anneliese doll poking her head out of the container with a raggedy Beach Fun Barbie and a My Scene doll beside her. I was scooping Anneliese up to inquire how much she was, when the elderly man (who was selling the dolls) said that he was trying to get rid of the whole container. The reason I couldn't see any other dolls was because there was a pile of junk resting over the container. So I assumed it was empty, except the dolls who were standing at the front of the bin. As the man moved the stuff off, I could see several plastic bags, concealing dolls. King Dominick was sticking out of one of them. The man said all the dolls were $10, and in a blink of an eye, I had my wallet out. I didn't even need to see who else was in the bin--the two African American Princess and the Pauper dolls were worth it to me (plus I saw Forever Diamondz & Bratz Babyz Yasmin also poking out of one of the bags).
At home we found a very interesting assortment of Disney dolls, ranging from "old school" Disney Store to early 2000s Mattel. I love this kind of eclectic mix, and I was especially intrigued by Sleeping Beauty when I saw her as I was walking around the flea market with the bin in tow. At home, I came to the delightful conclusion that these dolls were SQUALID!!! I love me a good dolly makeover story. They all stank, had neglected hair, and most of them were coated in some kind of grime. Ah, it was so exciting thinking of washing them all. Anyways, we love all 17 of the gals (and Dom) from the bin. There were only four duplicates--Fluttery Fantasy Cindy, Rock Angelz Cloe, Ooh la la Kumi, and My Scene Shopping Spree Barbie. But all of the duplicates provided clothing that I didn't previously have (yes, even nasty looking Rock Angelz Cloe--she had an untouched blister pack of stuff lurking in one of the plastic bags). We also mated a few old dolls with clothes, and had some clothes already on hand for some of these newbies!
There is an elderly couple who sets up every year, who we've bought dolls from since 2012. They always have the goods, and their stuff is worth the marked up price. Their booth is where we found "1st Edition" Cerise, Ashby, Dance Class Operetta, and the one, the only "1ST EDITION" GHOULIA!!! Needless to say, I think you can tell who my favorite of the day was...Ghoulia. How I've stalked this doll since 2013, drooling over eBay listings and desperately hoping I'd find her used. Somehow, both Colleen and I had this feeling we'd find Miss Yelps this season, and lo and behold, there she was on the opening day. She doesn't have the right shoes, but we weren't bothered. We almost didn't pay any mind to the other dolls once Ghoulia picked up on our radar. But I made sure to grab Cerise, despite my Ghoulia lust. I have wanted her since she came out, but I never caught one on a good enough sale. But it turns out she had the wrong colored hands...ha ha! It's alright, we ordered her some as well as a few other spare EAH parts so I have a stockpile ready when Mattel stops selling their limbs. I've also always wanted Operetta, but I originally held out because I thought I'd buy the Dance Class Gift Set...that never happened sadly. And of course, Ashby was probably my second favorite find of the day. I remember seeing the 10th Anniversary dolls in stores the year I started collecting again. Dad offered to buy me several dolls on various occasions, but I was pickier back then, so I declined. I'm so glad to finally have another one of these beauties. Her nylon hair and her filth encrusted outfit simply added to the excitement.

Facial reconstruction of Philip II of Macedon, father of Alexander the Great
Damage to the skull, found in a rich tomb at Vergina in northern Greece, seems to reflect the injuries that Philip suffered in his life. He lost an eye during the siege of Methone in northern Greece in 354 BC. We can't be absolutely sure these are Philip's remains but the rich grave goods associated with them suggest that this was someone very important.

On my way to pick my sister up from her job, I saw that one of my neighbors had put out a bunch of containers of free stuff in front of their yard. I saw what looked like a Barbie house...but the other time they put out what looked like doll stuff, it turned out to be a false alarm. Anyways, after picking Colleen up, we passed the house again. Both of us thought it looked like a Barbie house. Colleen decided to walk over after we got home. A few minutes later, she returned screaming down the driveway. I guess there was a TON of doll stuff!!! The house turned out to be legit, and so did all the dolls. I can't even contain my excitement right now...there were 80s Strawberry Shortcake dolls in the boxes!!! I have been dying to get "vintage" Strawberry Shortcake stuff for a few years, but it's always so expensive. Truthfully, I would have been just as excited by one Strawberry Shortcake doll, so you can imagine how overwhelmed I am right now!
The cardboard box is full of Strawberry Shortcake things, and the orange tote is stuffed with Barbie clothes. Plus the bathtub is loaded with Barbie accessories! I also apologize for the haphazard way this photo was arranged...I was too excited to bother with professional photography. Now I'm off to clean and enjoy my new dolls.

This is literally the best haul I've had all season, and I think it's pretty obvious why. Bratz are my favorite dolls in the whole world to collect, so scoring a lot of them made my day! I got ten Bratz dolls (not including the Cloe) and the Flashback Fever Retro Ride bus together, on my last leg of the flea market. I feel bad for Shoppin' Fun Barbie and Kelly because they were my favorite thing I found until buying the Bratz. I bought Cloe separately earlier in the day, along with Liv Sophie and Surf's Up Beach Teresa (who is wearing a "Basic" Mulan dress I needed). The other Barbie dolls my sister and I picked out from the same seller--we've bought dolls off him for several years now, and these were the ones we regretted leaving behind last time.

Colleen and I made the decision to stop going to the flea market for the duration of the 2024 season. By the time November rolls around, not many people set up outside there, so it's not worth the gas money or time. We look forward to returning in April, when it reopens. Anyways, our first flea market free weekend we dedicated to a Saver's trip. I found a 20% off coupon I had forgotten about, that was due to expire at the end of December. I really needed a new winter coat (mine was 15 years old, I already replaced the zipper slider several times, and it was getting very thin/worn out). Saver's isn't super close by us, so it's not somewhere we get to visit more than a couple times a year. I was appalled by how pricey the dolls were and for the wretched condition. There were nude ones with snapped off arms for $5.49 a piece!!! If the prices had been more reasonable, I would have rescued more of them. Anyways, the two Ariel dolls were in baggies by themselves. The live action movie doll first caught my eye. Funnily enough, I got my other one from the same Saver's earlier in the year (she's the mermaid doll). I felt so bad for this lady, being so new and already tossed aside. I didn't realize she was the singing version until I got her home. Princess Party Ariel wasn't worth the price because she was in random clothes. However, this is one of my favorite lines from childhood...and I only have three of the dolls (Jasmine, Belle, and Snow White). Colleen and I couldn't bear the thought of leaving her behind to rot. The poor dear had some damage to her arm and hand. But otherwise I knew she'd clean up wonderfully.
The little dolls and clothes were all in a baggie for $3.49. Well, sort of. Someone had ripped open a few different doll bags. I was holding one with the clothes and the mini Cinderella. That's when I noted a couple of Kelly dolls dangling loosely on the wire racks. I guess they fell out of the bag they were originally in. So I just added them to mine. I didn't want them to get lost in the store. It seemed like there was an employee in that area of the store throwing things away (she was violently smashing cassettes into a trash bin). The main reason I'd wanted the clothes was for Foam 'n Color Barbie's dress. But then I noted Teen Courtney's shirt, which Colleen needed for one of her dolls. The other items were mostly useful too--Barbie fashion pack pieces, Mary-Kate and Ashley ones, HSM Troy's jacket, a Skipper bag, and some Kelly fragments. It was worth the price for the bag, plus we got 20% off which wasn't bad. I didn't find the winter coat I needed, but Colleen did get a pair of pants.

Finally, after nearly a month we found some stuff at the flea market. It's not uncommon for there to be a lull in the middle of summer. Sometimes we'll go two months without coming home with treasures. All this stuff we found in the last aisle. I thought we were going home empty handed again until I spotted some Bratz dolls on the corner of a booth. They were all new Bratz, who are still in stores. It looked like the dolls had been bought on clearance. I believe this Yasmin was purchased at Target, which is where I acquired my other Runwayz Babyz before. The price underneath her flea market tag was the same $7 and some change. Interestingly, she only cost $5!!! I had the other Babyz that were at the table. I was super annoyed though, because the seller had Goin' Out Sasha for $7. I JUST bought my girl at Walmart for $15...I hate it when I could have saved more money on something. But at least there was this adorable Yasmin.
Colleen spotted a few Cabbage Patch Kids fragments in a box at another booth. She insisted that the knit onesie was authentic, but I had my doubts. It turns out it must be non-Cabbie, as it has snap closures and isn't tagged. The other things are all authentic though. I especially love the sailor themed dress (known as School Days). These pieces were $1 each, so we spent $5 at that table. Although we didn't score anything major, it was nice coming home with a few goodies. Such is life though...you can't have great hauls every week, otherwise you'd spend all your money!

I shouldn't have really bought this stuff because I have a very pricey Jeep repair coming up. But on our way home, Colleen and I couldn't help but pop in the local Salvation Army. When I saw this shabby Samantha, I was intrigued. Okay, I already have three of Samantha dolls. But for $2, it was hard to resist a fourth. Plus, this gal I named Bethan, reminded me fondly of my first childhood Sam from the 90s. They are probably similar ages. I held Bethan and walked around the Salvation Army to mull over whether or not I wanted to buy her. It was this indecisiveness that lead to me finding the boxed HSM Gabriella. She was sitting on a couch in the furniture area. This particular Gabby was my first High School Musical doll back in 2012. But I never got her second outfit (the one she wears in the package). For $2.99 I HAD to get her...it meant new clothes for my first dolly. Of course Holly and Cloe were shoeins to buy. I've wanted Sugar Coated EAH dolls since they were in stores. But they never went on a great enough sale for me to buy. As for Tandem Bike Cloe, I got her Yasmin counterpart in "$5 Bin Bonanza" last year! It's funny how that all worked out.

Yet again achieving the final Treasure Hunt topic on the last day of the year, I have been looking for blood oranges to make sone juice, but they are not yet in the shops here in the UK.
Resolving to just buy some oranges to make orange juice at home, I spotted this juicer in the larger Sainsburys supermarket in Chichester - perfect.
Did I buy any? Of course not!
At least that's another year juiced, and I will continue in the group next year, although I'll apologise right now, I'm going to be rubbish at commenting again!
Treasure Hunt 41: Juice
All of this stuff, except for Goin' Out Sasha, was purchased on July 30th. Colleen and I wanted to do some thrifting after my therapy appointment on Wednesday. The thrift shop on the way home didn't have anything of interest. Since it was like a billion degrees outside, we decided to make the trek out to Saver's. That way we wouldn't have to go home and boil in the humidity. During the rest of the year, we seldom have time for random trips to Saver's. So it's a real treat to go during the summer as often as we want. The doll selection was pathetic unfortunately. I think the employees were doing a stock turnover of sorts. I saw a bunch of them around the store with trash bins, tossing stuff into them, and then putting out new donations in the place of the old things. The doll section was half empty...I'm guessing a bunch of the plastic people had just been canned (maybe some of the stuff gets sent somewhere else, but some definitely gets thrown away...there were trash bags lining some of the bins the employees had). I did find this Bratz Forever Diamondz car though! It was overpriced at nearly $9...but I seldom see Bratz stuff. Despite the missing windshield it was in impeccable condition. None of the mirrors or small embellishments were broken off. My dad was obsessed with my Rock Angelz car when he was alive, so I can't help but snatch these Bratz vehicles up when I see them. Colleen and I pontificated over Sisu. There were actually two in stock that day. The other one had molded hair and was $2 more. This gal was $6...kind of steep, but as Colleen said, she was "too nice a girl to leave at a place like Saver's." She's going to be so much fun to use in photos/videos.
On the way home we popped into Target. Every once in a while we stop in at the perfect time. Such was the case Wednesday afternoon. There were a bunch of dolls hidden at the back endcap of one of the aisles...all were on sale. I was over the moon to find the Runwayz Babyz for around $8 each. I had been interested in getting them, but I wanted to procure them on sale of course. Only half the line was still in stock, but I'm so grateful nonetheless. Miss Rainbow High was $9...what a steal, so of course I had to grab her. And Colleen was beside herself when she found Wicked Nessa Rose for $12.50. We've never seen the movie or play, but Colleen is obsessed with dolls in wheelchairs. This one has an antique style to it that she adores. As for Sasha, I found her at Walmart Thursday morning when I was doing some grocery shopping. She was $15...I was hoping to save more, but I don't like to play around with Sasha dolls in general. She's often in her own assortment, so it's not always easy to find her in stores (plus, she costs way more than other characters later on, when it comes to eBay/Mercari).
