Dutch postcard by Uitg. Takken, Utrecht, no. 5920. Photo: in 1964 this Dutch delegation won the Songfestival of Knokke in Belgium a.k.a. the European Cup for Vocal Recitation. Ten years later, only Willeke Alberti and Rita Hovink were still popular performers. Hovink died in 1979.
For more than 50 years now Willeke Alberti (1945) is a very popular singer in the Netherlands. During the 1960s she was a teen idol with several #1 hits. Later she starred as an actress on stage, on TV and in popular films. Through the years, Alberti has become embraced in the Netherlands as a gay icon, due to a combination of her song repertoire, her durability, and her performances in support of manifold (gay) causes.

*Selected of God Choir to Host Evolution Listening Suite in Anticipation
of Upcoming Full-Length Album During Stellar Awards Weekend*
*
*
*NASHVILLE, TN, January 9, 2012* – Ambassadors of Chrysler’s*’* *“Imported
from Detroit” *Campaign, *Selected of God* Choir announces their Evolution
Listening Suite during *the 27**th** Annual Stellar Awards* weekend at
the *Sheraton
Music City Hotel, 777 McGavok Pike in Nashville* on *Friday, January 13**th*
* from 10am-8pm and Saturday, January 14**th** from 9am-9pm*. Selected of
God will give fans, gospel industry VIPs, media and celebrity peers an
exclusive sneak peak at tracks from their upcoming album, *Evolution *(Sing
2 Praise/S2P)set to drop this spring.
Produced by *Grammy*-winning, super producer *Asaph Ward* and Music
Director *Stephen Anderson*, *Evolution* is a poetically written; contemporary,
urban and inspiration record.
The choir’s chilling rendition of Eminem’s “*Lose Yourself*” will lead the
CD, but another stand outs include; a powerful remake of the wildly popular
*Clark Sisters* hit’ *“Sunshine”. *Full of great accents, the explosive
musical arrangement offers a sultry accompaniment to amazing vocals and
boasts featured lead vocals by the actual legendary composer herself;
*Elbernita
“Twinkie” Clark-Terrell*. Selected of God is the 1st choir to ever record
“Sunshine”.
No stranger to the success of a well done remade hit; Selected of God
didn’t take the process lightly. According to the group’s humble Founder
and Director *Larry Callahan*, “It was definitely an honor to remake
“Sunshine”, but there was a lot of weight…not only did we want to honor the
original writer and lead vocalist, who blessed us with her presence on our
project, but we wanted to maintain the integrity of the Clark Sisters’
work—it was a great responsibility”.
Other promising tracks include “*Dwell in Me*”, an upbeat, fun composition
by Stephen Anderson, that showcases the choir’s signature hip church swag. “
*Deliver Me*” is a mid-tempo tune is written by Asaph Ward and national
singer/songwriter Shawn McClemore with featured leads; *Stephen Anderson*and
*Nikki Ross* from Houston. TX.
*Eric Dawkins* of the widely respected *Dawkins and Dawkins* joins SoG
on “*Forsaking
All Others*”. The heartfelt ballad by Adrian B. King proclaims the artists’
stance to not let anyone get in the way of honoring HIM. “*Be Still and Know
*” showcases *Chrystal Rucker,* a rising gospel phenomenon, the powerful
gospel artist comes in on vamp and takes you to church!
Anderson’s “*He’ll Do Just What He Said*” promises to be a foot stomping
Sunday morning experience in your car and “*New Creature*” interprets the
scripture that states if a man be in *Christ*; he can start over. Written
by Asaph Ward and his mother, the late *Dawna Ward*, the mega producer
expressed; “my mother was a choir trainer and helped groom me to be the
producer I am today…I know she would be elated at the work Selected of God
has done with our song and this album.”
The 24 member collective takes a few unexpected turns on their *Evolution*;
infusing other genres with traditional gospel; “*Change is on the Way*”,
written by Asaph and Billy Powell is led by hip hop artist Aaron Parrott,
while “*Making A Way*” is an up-tempo house/techno song with featured
vocals by *Chiffon McNal* and *Rachel Stokes*.
“What’s makes Evolution so special is that it is truly a collage of great
gospel music that can touch individuals from every walk of life and be a
blessing to the nation,” says Stephen Anderson.
As impressive as the material on the project is the caliber and regional
variety of musicianship it features. *Evolution *is graced with some of the
most seasoned musicians in the world including drummers; Chris Johnson (Los
Angeles), Joshua Mayfield of the famous Mayfield Brothers and of gospel
legend lineage; J Drew-Sheard a.k.a. JDS. Ethan Former (Los Angeles) and
Allen “Snoop” Evans (Detroit) Robert Skinner and Aaron Mayfield (Mayfield
Brothers of Kansas) lend the bass, with Michael Bereal also from LA, and
Kevin Powell of Connecticut on keys and North Carolina’s Timothy Mole on
guitar.

About Robert Heffron Murray....
Robert Heffron Murray was born Wednesday, October 18, 1881, in Washington Heights, Cook County, Illinois, the son of George William Murray and Cora May (Heffron) Murray. After attending the Lewis Institute (forerunner of Illinois Institute of Technology) in Chicago for secondary school education, Robert enrolled and later graduated from The University of Chicago on Tuesday, June 14, 1904. Robert married Sue Mary Horton on Saturday, November 4, 1905, in Richmond, Virginia; no children resulted from their union. Sue was a childhood neighbor of Robert and the daughter of Horace E. Horton, the founder of Chicago Bridge and Iron. In 1917, Robert joined the United States Army and was commissioned as a Captain in the Army Reserves. He was elevated to Major when ordered to report for deployment to Europe during World War I. Upon return from active duty in Europe, he was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel, and was therefore commonly referred to as Colonel Murray. He started developing Sunset Hill Farm in 1934, which is located in the northwest quarter of Section 25 in Liberty Township, Porter County, Indiana. Leroy "Pete" Hanrahan, who served as Colonel Murray's farm manager from 1934 until his death in 1952, was instrumental in assisting Colonel Murray develop Sunset Hill Farm. Today, Sunset Hill Farm operates as a county park. After Robert's wife Sue died on Monday, February 26, 1962, he remarried Elizabeth (Linn) Allen, the widow of John B. Allen, on Saturday, January 11, 1964, in Liberty Township, Porter County, Indiana. Elizabeth, commonly referred to as Bips, was a member of the Chicago Board of Education and the grandniece of Jane Addams, a very well known early Twentieth Century progressive and the founder of Hull House in Chicago. Colonel Murray died on Saturday, October 28, 1972, in Valparaiso, Porter County, Indiana. Elizabeth "Bips" Murray died on Saturday, June 14, 1997, in Washington, DC.
About Lewis Institute....
Founded in 1895 from the estate of the Chicago real estate investor Allen Cleveland Lewis, Lewis Institute stood where the United Center now stands. Allen C. Lewis was one of many investors to descend on Chicago after the 1871 Chicago fire, and helped to rebuild the city's west side. Under its first director, George Noble Carman, Lewis Institute was the first institution to offer adult education programs, making it the first junior college in the United States. The Institute offered courses in engineering, sciences, and technology, but also featured courses in home economics and other domestic arts. Lewis Institute offered a program in which a young child was borrowed from a member of the community and would be cared for by students for up to a year. As the first President, Carman helped create North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, the first educational accreditation board. In July 1940, Lewis Institute merged with its local competitor - the Armour Institute - to form Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT).

The Church of Christ's Resurrection is a popular tourist attraction on the outskirts of Yalta in the Crimea, known primarily for its scenic location, overlooking the Black Sea littoral from a 400-metre cliff near Baidarsky Pass.
The church overlooking the village of Foros was commissioned by a local landowner to commemorate Alexander III's survival in the Borki train disaster (1888).
The landowner's name was Alexander Kuznetsov; he was a tea trader from Moscow. Nikolai Chagin, a celebrated architect from Wilno, designed the church in a bizarre blend of Rastrelliesque Baroque, Russian Revival, and Byzantine Revival.
The church was consecrated on 4 October 1892 in the name of the Resurrection of Christ in a ceremony attended by Konstantin Pobedonostsev. The last Tsar, Nicholas II of Russia, and his wife prayed at the church on the day of the 10th anniversary of the Borki incident.
THE RECRUITING SERJEANT OR BRITTANN'IAIS HAPPY PEO- SPEOT. (No. i.)
(LEONARDO. DA. VINCI INVT.) To be had facing Hungerf Marhet STRAND [By the Marquis Townshend.] [-April, 1757]
AN etching, showing a recruiting party headed by " Serjeant" Henry Fox (afterwards Lord Holland) carrying a halberd, and holding ribands marked, " reversion Ireland ", " Peerages ", " £4.000—in agenc(y) " ; he proclaims:—" All Gentlemen Voluntiers willing to serve under Military Government let 'em repair to my Standard Sf they Shall be Kindly Receiv'd." Next comes the drummer, Mr. Welbore Ellis, Vice Trea-
1 This distinction was, however, by George III. given to the lady, who, 1762, was created Lady Georgina Carolina, Baroness Holland. Mr. H. Fox became Lord Holland, April 10, 1763.
surer of Ireland and political agent for Mr. Fox. To him succeeds a recruit, the Earl of Sandwich, carrying on his shoulder a cricket-bat, knapsack, &c., and declaring:—" I love deep Play this or Nothing". Mr. Bubb Doddington, whose crimson coat is semee of fleurs-de-lis, waddles after the above named, puffing out:— " I can't follow this lean fellow much longer thats flat". The Earl of Winchelsea, or " Winchilsea", stands with his back to us, carrying over his shoulder a paddle- shaped rudder, which is inscribed, " HI waft you over to Germany", he remarks:— " Anything to turn out those that have more Virtue than myself". He is lookmg towards the background where the fleet in full sail appears, and is marked, " The Return of y' British Guard"(ians),i. e., of the Hessian troops who had embarked at Chatham, on their return to Germany; see "The 2 H, H,'s", No. 3342. Within a circular temple surmounted by the Hanoverian horse galloping over Britannia, is a statue of the Duke of Cumberland, very fat, and in a vainglorious attitude, standing on a vase-shaped pedestal which is inscribed, " BRITTANNIA SUBACTA AMERICA PROSTRATA GERMANIA ASSERTA ET GLADII POTESTAS UHICUNQ—THIVMPHANS MDCCLVH." Beneath the inscription a bombshell is falling on the globe. This etching is partly coloured by hand.
It was very successful at the date of its publication, and was referred to as follows :—-" Pamphlets, cards, and prints swarm again: George Townshend has published one of the latter, which is so admirable in its kind, that I cannot help sending it to you. His genius for likenesses in caricature is astonishing—indeed, Lord Winchelsea's figure is not heightened—your friends Doddington and Lord Sandwich are like; the former made me laugh till I cried. The Hanoverian drummer, Ellis, is the least like, though it has much of his air. I need say nothing of the lump of fat crowned with laurel on the altar. As Townshend's parts lie entirely in his pencil, his pen has no share in them; the labels are very dull, except the inscription on the altar, which I believe is his brother Charles's. This print, which has so diverted the town, has produced to-day a most bitter pamphlet against George Townshend, called ' The Art of Political Lying.' Indeed, it is strong." H. VValpole's "Letter to Sir H. Mann", April 20, 1757, edit. 1857, vol. iii., p. 71 ; for the pamphlet called " The Art of Political Lying ", see " The Devil of a Medley ", No. 3574, and " The Cato", &c., No. 3584.
This print was published immediately after Pitt and Legge had been dismissed from office, and by the City of London presented with gold boxes; it alludes t<, Mr. Fox's attempt to form an administration.
The figures of the Earl of Winchelsea and Bubb Doddington were probably copied from sketches said to be by Hogarth, which Lord Townshend may have seen. The so-called Hogarth's sketches are portraits scarcely caricatured, and at the side of Lord Winchelsea is a sketch of his head caricatured, as it appears in Lord Townshend's print. The figures which compose this satire were copied separately in compartments about the size of a card, and engraved with others on one sheet; see " Portrait of Bubb Doddiugton ", No. 3586 ; and " Portrait of the Earl of Winchelsea", No. 3588.
Fox and Welbore Ellis are protesting against a militia. Bubb Doddington declares himself against Hanover, Sandwich avows his fondness for deep play. On the same sheet the Duke of Newcastle is represented as the Knave of Spades, and Fox as the Knave of Hearts. On this subject, see " The 2 H, H,'s ", No. 3342, which describes a volume of satires which was, probably, formed by separating these cards.
Winchelsea and Doddington appear in a print by Bartolozzi, after Hogarth, who, it is said, copied them from the above print by Lord Townshend ; see " Caricature Portraits", &c., No. 3587.
For the history of the satires produced by the Hon. George (afterwards Marquis) Townshend, sec " The 2 H, H,'s ", No. 3342. For Mr. Fox, see " The French King in a Sweat", No. 3691 ; the inscriptions on the ribands represent the places and pensions secured by Fox at this period. For Mr. Welbore Ellis, see " The Triumph of Neptune ", No. 3572; " The Devil of a Medley ", No. 3574. For the Earl of Sandwich, see " A Courier just Setting out", No. 2629; " The Cabal", No. 2672; " Leap-frog!", No. 2819 ;" Tempora mutantur ", No. 3015; " Locusts", No. 3018 ; "A Tryal", &c., No. 3082 ; " Byng Return'd, No. 3367.
