Located on Lac Bryson. Was discovered by the owners of the lake a few years ago. They do not know who lived there and what happened to them.
Bought me a new hat this week, it makes Lee laugh, I can't think why!! ; ) I'm assured no cats were harmed in the making of this headgear!
This is a lovely hike if you're looking for some solid elevation gain and distance (4200 ft and around 16 miles). The old growth forest is beautiful and the trail seems to be sparingly traveled.
I believe that this hike was the first of last fall/winter's hikes that I encountered snow - which is now fascinating to me, as my past few 2024 hikes have featured quite a bit of snow (already!)
There were a few moments of head-scratching route-finding during this hike. I unwisely tried to push through a small section that I could have sworn was a trail... only to slip on a verrrrry slippery log and deeply bruise my hip (and my ego).
All in all, this was a peaceful (if moderately strenuous) hike.

I never thought that I would ever post a shot of a cat. This cat came in to my life while I was out birding on January 02 2010. It was a cold day with a – 30 wind chill. I drove down RR 210 north of HWY 16 which is a dead end road bordering Elk Island National Park with a trail leading to Trapper Lake. I have posted many shots of birds and mammals taken in all seasons along this road. On this particular day at the end of this road I found a half-frozen, emaciated, and near-dead cat at the bottom of a snow bank. . To make a long story short, she is mine or I am hers now. Three weeks later and vet bills I couldn’t have imagined, she is sitting on my lap as I write this. I call her Trapper.
Trapper Lake is a 200 yard (180 meter) by 100 yard (91 meter) glacial lake located 4.6 miles (7.4 km) from the trail-head at String Lake at the base of Mt. Moran. I had been trying to get there for over four years, but forest fires, snow, and a knee malfunction had prevented me from getting there. I finally made it on an unplanned trek, way to late in the day. I did not have very long to scout the area because I arrived there just forty-five minutes before sunset and I had a long hike back.
So after all that wait I did not even get much of a shot, but at least I finally have one. I only hope I can get back there someday.
By the way, there is a great looking camp site at the northeast end or the lake, Luke.

This is Trapper John (TJ). He was found in an illegal trap that had bitten into his rear leg. When TJ came to us last week, his leg was 3 times its normal size. What kind of person (if that what you can can it) would do something like this to any animal. It is beyond my comprehension. TJ is also Felv+ so he'll live the rest of his days with us at the shelter, www.helenkrause.org. He is a sweet lion boy who is so very brave.
