Flower 25mm long, translucent green and white with light brown suffusions. Galea acuminate. Lateral sepals with long, erect filiform points. Labellum with acuminate tip.
Rather fun to stumble across just this single flower during a 15km hike, with two others nearby on the way. Early season for these. (flowering March to September). Not previously observed in this broad area. A rather neat symmetrical look when viewed side on!
Yankee Springs, Michigan during the Fall is a beautiful place. If you've never been there, I would encourage you to hop in your favorite vehicle and take a tour. The colors, lakes, and scenic roads are great.
A short intermezzo from my "Denver to Seattle" uploads for a macro shot of an European Garden Spider (Araneus diadematus) from my own backyard.
In about a half hour I took 120 shots of different spiders. After severe selection, only 6 were kept. Not easy to get the focus on the tiny eyes!
Translucent Strip Cane Bracelet. This fresh summer bracelet includes coral beads and shell pearls. The shell pearls beads are spiral encased in 20 gauge non-tarnish artisan wire.
These images are all about playing with translucency. The leaf has been placed on a piece of glass put between two tressles. A soft box is used to illuminate the leaf from below, with metering for the light, not the leaf.
I have had a lot of fun with these and will now try a few different scenarios.
Strong sunlight (a rare commodity in Whaley Bridge in February!) passes through the overlapping petals and folded leaf of this beautiful tulip, creating an attractive variety of tones and revealing shadows which hint at the hidden reproductive parts of the flower on the inside.

a photograph of the mechanics of an elevator. The blue-ness is caused by sunlight shining through tinted, translucent glass. The black is obviously the silhouettes of the elevator parts.
this pic: no editing, I liked how beautiful and fragile this leave looks... I played in the sun for almost an hour, and got a very bad sunburn in my back for the session with the little hearts, but, no regrets... pics are worth it :-)
This weekend (April 16/17) the tulips were at their best in the Bollenstreek area. Bright colors everywhere!

So, rummaging around in Rosie's geological treasure trove for interesting things to shoot, I find what looks like a fossil coral. Very delicate. This might be interesting, I thinks. I could backlight it to show up all the feathery vanes on the outside,
It turned out to be somewhat translucent. This is a bit blown out, but I'll keep it for now.
Single SB-25 behind it on quarter power. I want to try more of this thing, but my batteries have all gone flat...
A leaf is translucent when backlit by the sun in the Botanical building at Balboa Park.
