I think this is banded agate, but I'm not so confident in that that I wanted to put it in the title. HMM

The #FlickrFriday #Translucent challenge
"Oh flowers, how lovely!" was my dear wife's response as I returned from a quick shopping trip. She didn't even ask what I'd done. Of course what I'd actually done was to grab a subject for this week's FF homework. It didn't take long for her to work that out. The vase is an art deco design by the well known 1920s-1930s British ceramicist Charlotte Rhead.
The photo was taken as shown using an old filter, which does not fit my current lens, smeared with Vaseline and balanced precariously on the front of it while I held a reflector to bounce some windowlight back onto the flowers. Thank goodness for delayed shutter release. Processing was light (by my standards anyway) with some colours boosted and texture and a small vignette added.
Earlier this year I did a marble shot called translucent. At the time the amazingly talented Bluesrose suggested a crop that I reticent about doing - mainly because I had already made one suggested change. But I have since acquired more of love of square format photos and thought that I'd give it a go. So this is for you Maris - thanks!

A friend introduced me to this "unique" steampunk band. I promised her I would add their site on one of Selene's photos for people to hear. They are a musical pantomime troupe called "Steam Powered Giraffe" and I really enjoy their music.
If you visit the website you can hear a few of their unique sounds, pick a song and click the arrow to play www.steampoweredgiraffe.com/

These mushrooms were positioned on a tree branch so I could catch the afternoon sunlight shining through. I think they are (Auricularia auricula-judae.) Common names are tree ear, black fungus, cloud ear, Jew's ear, Judas's ear, or tree jelly fish. Hopefully, one of our resident mycologists will verify or correct me.
