My first project in my photography class is a word based project. The instructor gives us 10 words and we have to make photographs that relate to or portray that word. The first word was transformation. Though this is a traditional black and white 35mm class, I thought I would explore these a little ahead of time with the D200.
Everywhere you look, things are transforming. It can be argued that everything, at every second, is in a transformation. I, especially, have been experiencing changes left and right. The last semester before graduating with my AA, a new chapter of my life in Tampa, embarking on a career endeavor, I'm changing in many different facets of my life.
The more change you deal with, the more you can actually change yourself. Change, in the right places, is invaluable. It is necessary, however, to decipher the difference between a good place and bad place to change. If we were unable to nurture and assist these transformations, what a stagnant and irresolute life we would live. It is amazing where these sparks of change can arise and how seemingly unnoticeable they can be.
My parents tell me to slow down all the time. From driving to hustling around doing errands to talking, everything I do is rather quick. I have been steadily slowing things down in my life and trying to appreciate and absorb all the little lessons that can sometimes be hard to find.
It is comforting to recognize areas where you have changed for the better. I am doing some rearranging at the moment, lining things up in a more efficient manner. Priorities, oh damned priorities.
In a frozen, winter scorched bush, green pigment begins to start poking out of the dead, brown leaves. In the entire bush, two whole green leaves prominently stand ground for those who shall follow.
You have to start somewhere. Even if advancements come one at a time, surrounded by stagnants, embrace them.
