After spending the entire day hunting fall colors around Big Bear Lake I noticed that the only trees that looked to be at peak were the non-indiginous ones that were purchased and planted. I found this tree along the main drive and it looked to me to be confused and yet glorious in all it's shades of color which were highlighted by the piercing blue of the sky behind. I sat and stared then after a while I felt at peace and understood. Humanity has entered a time of profound change and we are all pushed by necessity and pulled by opportunity.

The push is a growing systems crisis, evident in the breakdown of financial institutions, climate change, resource depletion, unsustainable populations, and more.

The pull is the opportunity to rise to a new level of human maturity, partnership, and freedom. The combined push and pull at a global scale make this truly a time of profound turning and transformation for humanity. These powerful trends are all represented here in this one tree.

Thanks for taking the time to take a look at my photos, and as always, your views, comments, faves, and support are greatly appreciated!! Have a great evening everybody!! :)

The Journey by Mary Oliver

One day you finally knew

what you had to do, and began,

though the voices around you

kept shouting

their bad advice–

though the whole house

began to tremble

and you felt the old tug

at your ankles.

“Mend my life!”

each voice cried.

But you didn’t stop.

You knew what you had to do,

though the wind pried

with its stiff fingers

at the very foundations,

though their melancholy

was terrible.

It was already late

enough, and a wild night,

and the road full of fallen

branches and stones.

But little by little,

as you left their voices behind,

the stars began to burn

through the sheets of clouds,

and there was a new voice

which you slowly

recognized as your own,

that kept you company

as you strode deeper and deeper

into the world,

determined to do

the only thing you could do–

determined to save

the only life you could save.

I can’t resist loving Ontario’s fall season. Wish you a wonderful day.

Created for Smile on Saturday - Photo Collage

Cold winds travelling over 206 miles of Lake Huron, along with the wave action hitting the shoreline, cause everything in it's path to freeze! In time you will no longer be able to see the branches facing you, they will be completely iced over.

Having fun with three images taken at the same mill somewhere in Upstate NY

The black turnstone is slowly getting its Summer plumage. I noticed among other things that the white patch they have in their face is getting much prominent. I have been able recently to photograph them in "mutation" but I have not had a chance to process these pictures yet... I am way behind in my processing and posting... but will try to dig a picture with the Summer markings before the end of Summer or perhaps I should say before the beginning of Summer, which ever comes first :)

While taking an early morning walk today, I spied this leaf at my feet. I promised I'd return and the leaf waited for me. Bliss!

Transformations~

"Flow and transformation"

Personally, I really like the transition from autumn to winter. I find a situation particularly nice when winter announces itself earlier than usual and the trees are still wearing their typical autumn dress. Like a hyper transformation.

“Whether a dandelion is a weed or a flower is entirely a matter of perspective.”

Taken from White Bird Hill Summit in Idaho off US-95. A beautiful drive.

As I come towards the end of my third year in Thailand I have been looking back on my time here and thinking about how much my life has changed. I am more active, sociable, full of energy and generally feel brighter than I have in many years. Every day I enjoy warm sunshine, have a world full of colour, interesting sounds, incredible tastes and smells and experiences that constantly ensure that I live my life on the edge of my comfort zone. I am surrounded by lots of amazing people and have formed some firm friendships that I hope will last me a lifetime. In spite of the global pandemic and all the tragedy and life disruption we have all had to endure I am very thankful for my time here and can honestly say that this experience has taken years off me.

The leap of faith that we took in 2018 certainly paid off! I think these comparative shots from 2017 and 2021 say a thousand words.

Time for a lengthy break from Flickr now as we take our summer holidays but we'll be back for year 4 in August!

This lovely creature was flitting around the garden at St. Benedict's Painted Church in Kona, Hawaii. It landed long enough for me to capture this image. The link below shares information about that incredible place. "We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty."

I've heard about watching paint dry or ice cubes melt...but have you ever watched Jello become less than bouncy? I just couldn't toss the lemon and orange Jello out without attempting to capture their last moments as they blended themselves into one massive container of liquid sweetness. :) I've been home for way too long!

We had the first nocturnal storm and a sharp drop in temperatures.

It seems that August has kept its promises, arguing a bit with September coming in tonight ....

September for me is like the first month of the year.

The new year begins today ....
