The Times Square Transformation is a major capital project with one driving goal: to ensure that Times Square is designed to reflect the bold, cutting-edge spirit that has long-defined the Crossroads of the World while still catering to the needs and capacities of a 21st Century urban space. Beginning in 2012, the City will upgrade the infrastructure below Broadway and 7th Avenue and redesign the Broadway pedestrian plazas, turning what is now painted asphalt into a world-class piazza.
The plans for the Transformation have been designed by Snohetta, with consultation by the Times Square Alliance and the Department of Transportation.
Throughout the construction, the Times Square Alliance will provide real-time updates to Times Square residents, businesses, and other interested parties.

In “Oceans in Transformation,” John Palmesino and Ann-Sofi Rönnskog explore the impact our actions have on the world’s oceans. Their “Territorial Agency” actively engages with the insights of world systems theory, linking data and narratives that are usually rarely connected. “Oceans in Transformation” is about ocean acidification and overexploitation of virgin forests, overfishing and ocean warming, increased use of natural resources in coastal areas and sea level rise, just as it is about the destruction of the cryosphere and the loss of languages.
Oceans in Transformation was awarded the STARTS Prize 2021, Grand Prize - Artistic Exploration.

Poor little Snow White was rescued from a pile of porcelain dolls at my local Salvation Army. Most of the time, dolls that I find at the Salvation Army and other charity stores are in very rough condition. That's because they tend to get banged up during the donation process. Firstly, the dolls were probably neglected for quite some time, perhaps stored in bad conditions (like a messy basement or attic). Then, they are thrown carelessly in bags or boxes with other unwanted junk, where they are then dumped off outside the Salvation Army. The boxes and bags sometimes spill out onto the pavement, and there are even days when it rains or snows, drenching the donations. Despite the fact that the employees try to bring everything inside or put it all into sheds, sometimes there is just such an overwhelming amount of stuff, that it just isn't possible. Once at the Salvation Army, the dolls end up being sold at the store they were donated to, or loaded onto a truck (carelessly I might add), and shipped off to a different location. It's amazing that a porcelain doll like Snow White even survived such a grueling journey. She sadly however is missing one of her thumbs (but luckily she isn't broken anywhere else). Snow White was not only broken, but also squalid. You can tell from these "before" photos that her face was filthy. She had dirt smudges on her nose and around her face. Her hair was still in its original style, but it was very messy and unkempt looking. But most of all, Snow White just smelled awful! Her hair especially clung to the bad odors of the Salvation Army and her previous home.
